Who We Are:

Matrix Pointe Software is a rapidly growing entrepreneurial Cleveland-based software company that provides cutting edge enterprise software solutions for the justice system, including prosecutors, courts, law enforcement agencies, state boards, and jail systems. Our commitment to, and reputation for, service, innovation, and delivering strategic solutions has resulted in our continuous growth. We have a truly great and supportive team and fun workplace.

Role:

The Director of Cloud and IT Operations leads the team responsible for how Matrix products are hosted, deployed, monitored, and supported. Your scope spans AWS hosting, on-prem hosting, product infrastructure, performance monitoring, on-premises client support, database management, client conversion support, client technical support, internal IT, and security compliance. You will manage a talented team of engineers and specialists across each of these areas and serve as their advocate, coach, and organizational leader.

The team is strong, dedicated, and in high demand. Your central goal is to continue to mature the organization: establish clear intake and prioritization of work, expand cross-training and documentation so knowledge is held broadly across the team, expand capacity for automation and strategic initiatives, and give every team member a clear path for growth. Because our clients operate on court and agency calendars, most releases, patching, and infrastructure maintenance run outside their business hours. This role carries a semi-monthly weekend commitment.

You will partner closely with Engineering, Client Services, and company leadership, translating business priorities into an operational roadmap and representing DevOps in client implementations, audits, and Requests for Proposals. This position reports to the Chairman and Chief Software Architect.

Matrix serves prosecutors, courts, law enforcement, and state agencies in highly regulated environments. The Director is the senior leader accountable for ensuring Matrix continues to meet – and exceed – the security expectations of those clients, the auditors who certify our systems, and the standards (CJIS, NIST 800-53, SOC 2, GovRAMP, FedRAMP, and emerging state and federal requirements) that govern them.

To be successful, you should bring both strategic vision and hands-on technical depth. You should be comfortable presenting risk and roadmap to executive leadership one day and executing a control implementation, audit response, or incident response the next. You should have excellent judgment, strong written and verbal communication, and a willingness to build a function from the ground up.

This position reports to the Chairman and Chief Software Architect. The Director is expected to build and lead a dedicated security team as the function matures.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the DevOps team, including engineers responsible for cloud infrastructure, monitoring and on-premises support, database operations, internal IT and client technical support, and compliance coordination.
  • Establish clear ownership, priorities, and growth plans for each team member, and conduct regular one-on-ones and performance reviews.
  • Build a cross-training program that broadens coverage across database administration, infrastructure automation, and client environment support.
  • Champion documentation as a team discipline, ensuring runbooks, environment configurations, and operational procedures stay current and shared.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement a structured intake, triage, and prioritization process that balances day-to-day operational support with project and automation work.
  • Define escalation paths, on-call practices, and service expectations for internal teams and clients.
  • Establish metrics and reporting that give leadership visibility into workload, operational risk, and team capacity.
  • Regularly review existing systems and processes and drive improvements in performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Infrastructure, Automation & Monitoring

  • Support infrastructure manager on the strategy for AWS cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, Ansible), expanding automation and environment consistency.
  • Direct the continuous improvement of deployment pipelines and release automation (Octopus Deploy, TeamCity) across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Set the roadmap for monitoring, alerting, and observability so issues are identified and resolved before clients feel them.

Database Operations

  • Oversee database availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, security, and conversion support for SQL Server environments.
  • Support training and facilitate shared coverage of database responsibilities.

Security & Compliance

  • Support the company’s security and compliance programs, including SOC 2 evidence workflows, audit responses, and client security questionnaires.
  • Maintain the infrastructure controls required by the FBI CJIS Security Policy across hosted and on-premises client environments.
  • Serve as the senior technical point of contact for client implementations, on-premises environment builds, and infrastructure portions of RFPs.
  • Partner with the application engineering team to improve product operability, error visibility, and troubleshooting tooling.

Client Engagement

  • Coordinate with Matrix client implementers during onboarding to ensure proper resources and capacity planning for go-live support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or systems engineering, including experience leading or managing technical teams.
  • Hands-on background with AWS, infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible), and CI/CD tooling (e.g., Octopus Deploy, TeamCity).
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server database operations, including availability, disaster recovery, and performance, sufficient to lead and support experienced DBAs.
  • Support RTO/RPO requirements.
  • Experience supporting security and compliance programs such as SOC 2, CJIS, or NIST 800-53 is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success building team processes: intake and prioritization, documentation standards, cross-training, and on-call or escalation practices.
  • Comfort interfacing directly with customer IT teams and representing the company in client-facing technical work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to translate technical work into clear updates for executives, clients, and auditors.
