**Unit Description:**
OnSPARK is a health data platform that supports research for quality improvement and innovation across the long\-term care (LTC) sector in Ontario. Operating in close collaboration with health system, government and academic partners, OnSPARK securely integrates and curates real\-world data from LTC homes to enable high\-impact, evidence\-informed research.
We are seeking a Statistical Analyst II to play an integral role in preparing, managing, and analyzing multiple complex health data sources and to contribute directly to the production of analytic outputs, reports, and methodological tools that support our partners across Ontario. The emphasis in this position is on hands\-on data work—data cleaning and preparation, developing data creation plans, preparing analytic datasets for research project teams, conducting statistical analyses, documentation, and contributing to/drafting sections of analytic deliverables. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and project teams to translate research questions into high\-quality, analysis\-ready datasets and reproducible analytic workflows. This position is best suited for an individual who enjoys applied analytics, working directly with data, and collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team in a research environment.
The successful candidate will have strong quantitative and analytical skills, as well as experience working with complex health and administrative datasets. Knowledge of and experience with secondary data sources and secondary dataset structures, including linked and longitudinal data, will be considered a strong asset. The role requires the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, engaging with researchers, clinicians, data stewards, and health system partners.
The team operates primarily in a remote environment with a hybrid component. While most work can be completed remotely, in\-person meetings or events are held on campus as needed, without a fixed schedule.
**Job Summary:**
Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electronic databases to ensure the integrity of research data for a unit or department. Responsible for the application of complex statistical and technical skills toward the collection, management, analysis, and translation of data for multiple, large research projects. Conducts statistical research and analysis and compiles and interprets statistical records and reports for a variety of research projects.
**Duties and Responsibilities:**
* Oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of databases, data collection forms, error checking methods, and related programs for collection, analysis, and reporting. * Develop strategies to implement database upgrades and case report forms modifications to existing database structures in compliance with regulatory requirements and good clinical practice guidelines. * Maintain and update standard operating procedures used for the setup, testing, maintenance, and revision of databases. * Apply established statistical methods and techniques to analyze and interpret data. * Identify the appropriate method of statistical analysis and apply statistical techniques to interpret and monitor the quality of research data. * Compile and analyze data and interpret trends, fluctuations, and other changes that may emerge. * Develop forms and procedures required for the collection and compilation of data. * Devise and implement administrative procedures for the collection of data. * Design database specifications and modify existing software packages to meet specific research project needs. * Document new designs, codes, and modifications. * Develop test cases and test system upgrades and enhancements. * Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, grants, and abstracts. * Identify and resolve database and software problems. * Conduct data audits, compile results, analyze and summarize audit findings. * Coordinate and manage the collection, delivery, entry, verification, analysis, and reporting of data. * Provide advice regarding data collection and analysis required for research projects. * Recommend modifications to processes related to data collection and data entry conventions and develop implementation plans. * Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature. * Research pertinent literature in a designed project area and analyze the applicability of the concepts. * Review case report forms, determine possible protocol deviations, discrepant data, and inconsistent reporting. * Facilitate meetings and prepare recommendations on statistical and reporting strategies. * Exchange information with colleagues and statistical experts. * Explain statistical approaches to others who do not have the equivalent knowledge in statistical methods. * Develop and deliver presentations and training sessions. * Safeguard the confidentiality of study data.
**Supervision:**
* Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others. * Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 casual employees at any one time. * Provide orientation and show procedures to others.
**Qualifications:**
* Master’s degree in a related field of study. * Requires 3 years of relevant experience.
**Assets:**
* Experience working with Personal Health Information and/or in a secure research environment. * Thorough understanding of data governance, privacy, and data quality considerations. * Familiarity with the long\-term sector and its data (e.g., RAI\-MDS 2\.0\). * Familiarity with other Ontario data sources (e.g., DAD, NACRS, ODB).
**Additional Information:**
Strong foundational knowledge of data and data structures, including experience working with complex data layouts, preparing and cleaning datasets, and performing statistical manipulation; proficiency with statistical software programs (e.g., SAS, Stata, R, Python or equivalent) along with the ability to apply these tools to produce accurate, high\-quality analytic outputs.
