An opportunity is available for a Theatre-trained Registered Nurse to join a busy surgical environment in Knysna. This role would suit a clinically confident theatre nurse with strong scrub experience, particularly within General Surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative period.
- Perform scrub duties during surgical procedures, ensuring the sterile field is maintained at all times.
- Prepare the operating theatre, instruments, equipment and supplies according to the requirements of each procedure.
- Assist the surgical team during General, Orthopaedic and Neuro procedures where applicable.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection prevention protocols.
- Conduct accurate instrument, swab and needle counts in accordance with theatre procedures.
- Monitor patients closely and promote patient safety throughout the surgical process.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of patient documentation and theatre records.
- Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, ethical requirements and nursing competencies.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary theatre team to promote a positive and effective working environment.
- Participate in flexi-shifts and on-call duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing with current registration with SANC.
- Post Basic Diploma in Operating Theatre Nursing.
- Scrub experience in General Surgery is essential.
- Experience in Orthopaedic and Neuro specialities would be beneficial.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Participative and collaborative approach, with the ability to contribute towards a healthy, positive and value-based team culture.
- Current knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial relations, standards, codes, ethics and competency requirements applicable to Nurses working in Theatre.
- Computer proficiency would be an advantage.
- Willingness to work flexi-shifts and participate in on-call duties.
