On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About the Organisation:

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post:

As part of the IT Strategic Business Unit, NSS Infrastructure services has direct responsibility for over 250 different applications (deployed both on-premises in one of two data centres, and in the public cloud) and for processing over 100 million records per year. The NSS Infrastructure Server team is responsible for maintaining and supporting existing platforms as well as researching emerging technologies and recommending future direction. They are also involved in a number of major IT projects aimed at optimising the use of IT infrastructure.

The team is split into 4 areas of expertise - Microsoft, Unix, Cloud and Oracle Database

The Candidate:

An opportunity has become available within the NSS Cloud Team for an enthusiastic professional to join the existing team of 6 cloud engineers who are tasked with responsibility for the support, maintenance and security of over 50+ production subscriptions, and around 100+ test and development subscriptions, all hosted with the NSS enterprise tenancy.

The NSS Cloud Team currently utilizes several cloud focused technologies in order to deploy a mix of IaC, IaaS, and PaaS. These are hosted with Azure with a small percentage being hosted in AWS.

Candidates should have wide experience of infrastructure support with some experience in cloud technologies. There will be training provided to develop cloud technical skills, both by working within the team itself and additional technical courses.

Tasks will include:

Azure Environment Support:

Assist in deploying and managing Azure resources (VMs, storage accounts, VNets, App Services)

Monitor cloud resources using Azure Monitor, Zabbix, Log Analytics, and Orca alerts

Perform basic troubleshooting of Azure services and help resolve connectivity issues

Infrastructure & Networking basics and configuration:

Virtual Machines (VMs)

Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), Subnets, NSGs

Load Balancers & Application Gateways

Identity & Security Assistance:

Assist with Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) management

User and group management and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

Assist with basic security policies

MFA setup

Key Vault usage (secrets, keys)

Backup, Recovery & Maintenance:

Assist with Azure Backup and Restore and basic DR tasks

Apply patches and updates under supervision

Azure cost analysis

Candidates should also show an interest in learning more about the management, access and development of applications in Azure, as well as developing skills in scripting languages and automation products such as Ansible and Terraform.

The IM & T Senior Technician should have an appreciation of the business requirements of the NSS and combine this knowledge with finely tuned customer relation skills.

Location and Working Pattern:

This post is based at Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow in a hybrid working environment.

The work pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
