Business Information

Northern Energy is a family-friendly company currently based in Hampsthwaite, a small village just outside of Harrogate. Due to significant growth, we are moving to our new, purpose-built building at Boroughbridge in Spring 2027. We aim to serve local communities across the country with domestic and commercial LPG. In addition, we offer various services which complement our business. We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and on being the best in terms of service and delivery.

We believe that attitude is just as important as experience. If you have the technical knowledge we're looking for, enjoy helping others and want to put your expertise to good use, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for someone approachable, collaborative and who genuinely enjoys sharing their knowledge and finding solutions. You'll be the specialist that people turn to for advice, so being able to support colleagues and explain complex technical matters in a clear and practical way is just as important as having the right experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and growing team where your mindset, willingness to help and approach to problem-solving matter just as much as your technical skills and experience.

Our benefits package at Northern Energy is better than most others, and we work hard – but play harder than most!

Role Objectives:

We are looking for a highly experienced individual to join us in a new role as Technical LPG Advisor. This is a specialist position within the business, and you will become our go-to technical expert for LPG installations, providing authoritative advice and guidance across the company.

You must have significant previous experience working within the LPG industry, including experience of LPG tank installations, maintenance and associated systems. This role requires someone who can draw on their own experience and technical knowledge to advise on situations where the answer may not always be straightforward.

You will provide specialist support on complex, unusual or challenging LPG installations, including commercial properties, difficult or restricted sites and installations requiring a higher level of technical assessment.

Working closely with our Sales, Customer Service and Engineering teams, you will help assess potential installations, resolve technical queries and determine safe, compliant and practical solutions for our customers.

While you must have a strong practical engineering background and relevant LPG qualifications, this is primarily a technical advisory role. You will not normally be expected to carry out installations or maintenance yourself.

Main Responsibilities:

· Act as the company's specialist and primary technical authority for LPG installations and systems.

· Provide expert technical advice to the Sales, Customer Service and Engineering teams.

· Advise on complex or non-standard LPG installations, including commercial properties, restricted locations and difficult-to-access sites.

· Review proposed installations and determine whether they are technically feasible, safe, compliant and suitable for the customer's requirements.

· Attend customer sites throughout the UK where a more detailed technical assessment is required.

· Use your previous practical experience to identify potential installation, safety, access and compliance issues before work is undertaken.

· Support the Sales team in developing appropriate technical solutions for new and existing customers.

· Provide guidance to engineers dealing with unusual, complex or technically challenging installations.

· Provide clear technical recommendations and explain these effectively to both technical and non-technical colleagues.

· Keep up to date with relevant LPG regulations, industry standards, codes of practice and technical developments.

· Help develop technical standards and best practice across the business.

· Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to colleagues, helping strengthen LPG knowledge throughout the organisation.

Personal Requirements:

This role requires an experienced LPG professional with a proven background in the industry. Previous hands-on LPG engineering experience is desirable.

You will have encountered a wide range of installations during your career and be comfortable using that experience to make informed technical recommendations when installations are unusual or particularly challenging.

You should have:

· Significant previous experience working with LPG installations and systems.

· Relevant current LPG qualifications and competencies.

· Proven practical experience of LPG tank installation and maintenance.

· Strong technical knowledge of LPG systems, installation requirements, safety requirements and industry standards.

· Experience of assessing and solving complex or unusual installation challenges.

· The knowledge and confidence to act as the LPG technical specialist within the business.

· The ability to make sound technical judgements and clearly explain your recommendations.

· The confidence to challenge or question a proposed solution where you believe there is a technical, safety or compliance concern.

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, salespeople, customer service colleagues and customers.

· A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.

· The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.

· A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites throughout the UK.

· Flexibility to attend the office periodically when required.

· Previous experience with commercial and/or complex LPG installations.

Working Arrangements

This position may particularly suit a highly experienced LPG Engineer who wants to use the knowledge and expertise gained throughout their career in a more advisory capacity, rather than continuing in a predominantly hands-on role.

The role can be predominantly home-based, although regular travel to customer sites will form part of the position and you will be expected to attend the office periodically when required.

We are happy to consider both full-time and part-time arrangements for the right candidate.
