Make a meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges by joining our Emergency Department Mental Health team at South Western Sydney Local Health District. As a Mental Health Emergency Department Navigator, you will play a vital role in supporting consumers and carers through their emergency care journey, improving access to services, coordinating care pathways, and promoting safe and timely transitions of care. Working across Campbelltown, Liverpool and Bankstown Hospitals, you will contribute to innovative models of care that enhance consumer outcomes, patient flow and continuity of mental health services across the district.

Are You the Right Fit?

You are a passionate and motivated Mental Health Clinician with demonstrated experience in mental health assessment, care coordination and crisis intervention. You have excellent communication and engagement skills, can build effective relationships with consumers, carers and colleagues, and thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment where competing priorities are managed effectively. Your strong organisational skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams allow you to deliver safe, coordinated and person-centred care.

You are committed to recovery-oriented, strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice and are motivated by improving consumer experiences and outcomes. Knowledge of local mental health services, referral pathways and healthcare systems will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you are driven to make a positive difference by helping consumers navigate complex healthcare environments and access the support they need when it matters most.

Selection Criteria

To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian HealthPractitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least 5 years full time equivalentpost registration experience and in addition who has approved postregistration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which theemployee is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemedappropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge ofclinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safecompassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in mental healthassessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and care planning, with theability to provide expert consultation and leadership in the management ofconsumers presenting with complex mental health needs within anemergency department setting.
