Senior Frontend Developer — React & Next.js
- Location: Remote - US Only (Must reside in the US)
- Company: Halen
- Employment Type: Part-time
About Halen
Halen is building a Super App that brings everyday services into one platform, starting with rideshare and package delivery. Our model gives drivers a weekly subscription instead of fare commissions and offers riders transparent pricing without surge charges.
We’re preparing for our Philadelphia pilot and looking for an experienced frontend developer to help deliver a fast, intuitive web experience for our customers.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Frontend Developer with strong React and Next.js experience who has built responsive, customer-facing web applications.
You’ll help develop and improve Halen’s website and customer web experiences, turning product requirements and Figma designs into polished, reliable interfaces. You’ll work closely with our designers, backend engineers, and product team to connect those interfaces to live services and prepare them for launch.
This role requires someone who can own a feature from design review through implementation, testing, and release—with close attention to how it works on mobile, tablet, and desktop.
What You’ll Own
Responsive Web Experiences
- Build and maintain customer-facing applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Translate Figma designs into accurate, accessible interfaces that work across screen sizes and browsers.
- Create reusable components and consistent layouts, navigation, forms, and interactions.
- Refine the details that make an application easy to use, including loading states, validation, error messages, and empty states.
API Integration & Application Behavior
- Work with backend engineers to integrate APIs for authentication, customer accounts, bookings, and other core workflows.
- Manage application state, data fetching, caching, and session behavior.
- Handle API failures and slow connections gracefully so customers understand what is happening and what to do next.
Performance & Quality
- Improve page speed, rendering performance, and SEO where relevant.
- Use Next.js rendering approaches appropriately for each experience.
- Test critical customer journeys and catch layout, browser, and functional issues before release.
- Participate in code reviews, document key decisions, and help prevent regressions as the product evolves.
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years of frontend development experience, including substantial hands-on work with React and Next.js.
- Experience shipping responsive, customer-facing web applications, with examples you can walk us through.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript, semantic HTML, and CSS skills.
- Experience translating Figma designs into polished interfaces, including responsive behavior beyond the provided mockups.
- A solid understanding of React hooks, component architecture, state management, and Next.js routing and rendering.
- Experience integrating REST APIs and working with authentication and protected routes.
- Familiarity with accessibility, cross-browser testing, and frontend performance optimization.
- Comfortable using Git, pull requests, and a collaborative development workflow.
- Clear communication, reliable part-time availability, and the ability to take ownership of assigned features.
Bonus Points
- Experience with rideshare, delivery, logistics, marketplaces, or other consumer platforms.
- Familiarity with Firebase Authentication, maps, location-based interfaces, or real-time updates.
- Experience with Tailwind CSS, shared component libraries, or design systems.
- Experience testing with Playwright, Cypress, or React Testing Library.
- Familiarity with deployment workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
Why Join Halen?

You’ll work closely with a small team, contribute to product and technical decisions, and own features that real customers will use. We’re looking for someone who cares about both the quality of the code and the experience it creates.
