About Oculase

Oculase is a private ophthalmology clinic led by a consultant refractive eye surgeon, with clinics in London (Harley Street area), Hertfordshire and Southampton. It treats patients for laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery, refractive lens exchange, cataract surgery, eyelid and aesthetic procedures, glaucoma, and general and emergency eye care. Most patients are self-paying and research the clinic online before booking a consultation.

Purpose of the role

The Social Media Manager owns Oculase's public reputation online. The postholder sets the communications strategy across social media, press and patient reviews, protects the clinic's standing with patients and referrers, and makes sure every public statement about treatment is accurate and compliant with UK healthcare advertising rules. The role works directly with the Clinic Director and the surgical team and carries independent responsibility for the clinic's public voice.

Key responsibilities

Communications strategy (about 25% of time)

  • Plan and own an annual social media and communications strategy linked to the clinic's treatment priorities and patient booking targets. Define the clinic's tone of voice, key messages and brand guidelines, and apply them across all channels. Set quarterly objectives and budgets for organic and paid social activity and report results to the Clinic Director.

Public relations and reputation (about 25%)

  • Act as the clinic's press officer: write press releases, pitch stories on new treatments and outcomes to health and consumer media, and handle journalist enquiries. Monitor and respond to patient reviews on Google, Doctify, Trustpilot and social platforms, escalating clinical complaints through the clinic's complaints procedure. Lead the response to any negative publicity or online criticism, preparing holding statements and advising the Clinic Director. Build relationships with optometrists, referring GPs, patient groups and industry partners through targeted professional content.

Content and channel management (about 30%)

  • Manage the clinic's Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube accounts, with a monthly content calendar. Plan and produce educational content with the surgeons, including treatment explainers, patient journey stories and live Q&A sessions. Brief and manage freelance photographers, videographers and designers. Plan, run and optimise paid social campaigns within an agreed budget.

Compliance and governance (about 10%)

  • Check all content against the CAP Code and ASA guidance on cosmetic and refractive procedures, GMC guidance on doctors' advertising, and CQC expectations. Make sure no prescription-only medicines are promoted to the public and no claim about outcomes, risks or prices is misleading. Obtain and record written patient consent before any image, testimonial or story is published, in line with UK GDPR.

Performance and reporting (about 10%)

  • Track reach, engagement, enquiries and consultation bookings from each channel, and produce a monthly performance report. Use the data to adjust strategy and recommend where to invest.
