Job Summary:

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, to begin Fall 2027.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Candidates should have a PhD in Sociology, Criminology, or closely associated field, with a research focus in crime, law, and deviance. Advanced ABDs will be considered, but completion of PhD is required by time of hire. Candidates should be prepared to teach five courses (in a quarter system, 2/2/1) in Sociology and Criminology, both in-person and online. Experience teaching and developing online classes is preferred. Preferred candidates will also contribute to graduate education, through teaching and advising graduate students in the School of Public Policy. Successful candidates will have an active research agenda and demonstrate potential for eventual promotion and tenure.

  • Teach 5 courses each academic year

  • Be able to teach both in person and online

  • Be able to develop online courses

Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidates will be those able and willing to teach both in-person and online. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in criminology as well as general sociology. Experience teaching and developing online classes is preferred. Preferred candidates will also contribute to graduate education, through teaching and mentoring graduate students in the School of Public Policy. Successful candidates will have an active research agenda and demonstrate potential for eventual promotion and tenure.

Working Conditions/Schedule:

The faculty member should expect to work primarily on campus and be available for regular on-campus in-person teaching and meetings. This is not a remote position.

Salary Range:

Salary is commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
