JOB SUMMARY

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and Pittsburgh Riveters SC are seeking a Social Media and Content Manager to lead social media and content for both clubs. The position will connect supporters to Pittsburgh’s men’s and women’s soccer teams through original storytelling, live coverage, and year-round fan engagement.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, this position will own day-to-day social media strategy, content planning, and publishing for the Riverhounds and Riveters. The role will build awareness of both brands, grow their audiences, and support ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise, and other club marketing priorities through compelling content and measurable results.

This is a hands-on role for a strong writer and content creator who can turn match action, player personalities, and the Pittsburgh soccer community into content fans want to watch and share. The manager will plan ahead, capture and edit content in collaboration with the creative staff, and respond quickly to opportunities during matches and throughout the season. Each club should have a distinct voice and content approach that reflects its identity and supporters.

Responsibilities: Social Media Strategy & Channel Management Develop and execute social media and content strategies for the Riverhounds and Riveters that advance each club’s marketing goals and increase audience growth, engagement, and brand awareness.

  • Own the content calendar and daily publishing across Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, and other relevant platforms, balancing club storytelling with promotional priorities.
  • Define the purpose, audience, and content approach for each channel; adapt copy, visuals, and formats to how fans use each platform.
  • Maintain distinct voices and consistent brand standards for both clubs while developing recurring features and campaigns that give fans reasons to follow year-round.
  • Identify emerging trends, platform features, and new technologies; test relevant ideas and use results to guide future investment of time and resources.

Content Creation & Storytelling Pitch, plan, capture, edit, and publish original content, including short-form videos, photography, interviews, graphics, and longer video features in collaboration with the creative staff.

  • Develop stories around players, coaches, supporters, community initiatives, and club history that make both teams accessible to existing and prospective fans.
  • Collaborate with creative and communications staff on production plans, design requests, and editorial priorities; coordinate player and coach access with the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain an organized content archive and production workflow, including footage, photos, project files, deadlines, approvals, and final assets.

Matchday Coverage & Fan Engagement Lead social coverage of Riverhounds and Riveters home and away matches, coordinating on-site capture and remote coverage from pregame through postgame.

  • Cover training sessions, club announcements, promotional events, and community appearances; prepare content in advance while leaving room for timely moments.
  • Monitor comments, direct messages, and fan conversations; respond in the club’s voice and route ticketing, service, or sensitive issues to the appropriate department.
  • Build relationships with supporters and relevant local creators; identify collaborations and fan-generated content that expand the club’s reach.
  • Exercise sound judgment when publishing in real time and coordinate sensitive messaging with communications and marketing leadership.

Analytics & Content Team Coordination Track and report on key performance indicators for each brand, including follower growth, reach, engagement rate, video views, and watch time where applicable.

  • Test content formats, posting times, creative approaches, and calls to action; use findings to refine the calendar and improve performance.
  • Coordinate content assignments and matchday coverage with creative staff, photographers, videographers, and assigned interns; provide clear briefs, schedules, and feedback.
  • Follow club and league publishing requirements, including footage and music rights, sponsor usage, and permissions for featured participants.

Qualifications and Experience: Required Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • At least three years of relevant social media, and content production, including responsibility for a brand’s social channels.
  • A portfolio demonstrating original content, strong writing, and successful social campaigns; ability to explain your role and the results achieved.
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms, audience behavior, publishing tools, and analytics; ability to turn performance data into practical decisions
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines while producing accurate work in a live sports environment.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate across departments, and work evenings, weekends, holidays, and assigned matches and events.

Preferred Experience in professional sports, college athletics, live entertainment, or another organization with frequent live coverage needs.

  • Working proficiency in photography, video capture and editing, and graphic design using Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable tools.
  • Knowledge of soccer and its supporter culture, with an interest in Pittsburgh sports and the local community.
  • Experience with Sprout Social, HubSpot, Hootsuite, or other relevant social media content managing platforms.
  • Experience producing sponsor content, coordinating creator collaborations, or guiding interns and freelance contributors.

Work Environment:

This position is based in Pittsburgh and includes regular office hours as well as evening, weekend, and holiday work based on Riverhounds and Riveters match schedules, playoffs, training sessions, and club events. Responsibilities include computer-based planning and editing, on-site content capture, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Travel for select away matches or club events may be required.
