Our Client is seeking an experienced Modification Technical Lead to support engineering modification projects for Ontario Power Generation (OPG). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical coordination, planning, development, and implementation of plant modifications within a nuclear power generation environment.
This role requires strong technical leadership, coordination across multidisciplinary engineering teams, and the ability to manage modification packages throughout their lifecycle, from initial scope definition and design development through implementation, commissioning, and closeout. The candidate will ensure that all modifications comply with applicable nuclear safety requirements, engineering standards, quality assurance processes, and OPG procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development and execution of nuclear plant modification projects, ensuring alignment with approved scope, technical requirements, schedules, and project objectives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, civil/structural, and other relevant technical disciplines.
- Manage the development, review, and approval of modification packages, including design documentation, technical specifications, calculations, drawings, and implementation plans.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact between OPG, engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Review engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, design integrity, regulatory compliance, and adherence to applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
- Coordinate technical reviews, design reviews, constructability assessments, risk assessments, and interdisciplinary interface reviews.
- Support modification screening, scope definition, feasibility assessments, and identification of design changes required to address plant needs.
- Monitor technical issues, design discrepancies, field changes, and engineering risks, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate escalation.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of modification schedules, deliverable tracking, action item logs, and technical status reports.
- Coordinate with project controls, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to support effective modification implementation.
- Ensure configuration management and design basis requirements are maintained throughout the modification lifecycle.
- Support field walkdowns, site investigations, installation planning, commissioning activities, and post-implementation verification, as required.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable nuclear safety requirements, quality assurance programs, document control requirements, and OPG engineering processes.
- Facilitate technical meetings and stakeholder discussions to resolve design issues, clarify requirements, and maintain progress against project milestones.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members and support continuous improvement in modification management practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for licensure, where required by the scope of responsibility.
- Significant experience in engineering, technical leadership, or modification management within the nuclear power, power generation, or regulated industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating engineering modification projects from design development through implementation and closeout.
- Strong understanding of engineering change control, configuration management, design basis documentation, and modification lifecycle processes.
- Experience working with nuclear utility clients, particularly OPG, is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with nuclear quality assurance requirements, applicable CSA standards, regulatory expectations, and engineering governance processes.
- Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, coordinating technical interfaces, and resolving complex engineering issues.
- Strong project coordination, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet project deadlines, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering document management, work management, and project tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting OPG nuclear generating stations or projects.
- Familiarity with nuclear plant modification processes, engineering change packages, and plant configuration control.
- Experience with design change requests, technical evaluations, field change documentation, and commissioning documentation.
- Knowledge of nuclear project execution, outage planning, construction support, and work management processes.
- Experience coordinating engineering contractors, technical specialists, and utility stakeholders.
Work Expectations:
- The role may require travel to OPG facilities or generating stations for technical meetings, site walkdowns, and project implementation support.
- Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with client representatives and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Nuclear facility access, security clearance, and site-specific training may be required, depending on project assignments.
Key Success Factors
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical ownership, sound engineering judgment, effective stakeholder coordination, and a commitment to nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. The individual must be capable of driving modification deliverables to completion while maintaining technical integrity and alignment with OPG requirements.
