Project Manager
Bioscience Core Skills Institute (BCSI)
Full-time | Remote | 26 paid days off annually + benefits
Bioscience Core Skills Institute (BCSI) is a national nonprofit creating a trusted system for verifying practical laboratory skills. We develop performance-based assessments and digital microcredentials that allow students, workers, educators, and employers to demonstrate what someone can actually do in the laboratory.
BCSI is launching a new National Science Foundation-funded project, and we are looking for a Project Manager to own its day-to-day execution from start to finish.
What You’ll Do
You’ll take the project’s funded proposal, scope of work, budget, deliverables, partner commitments, and reporting requirements and turn them into a well-managed project.
Responsibilities include:
* Build and maintain the project plan, timeline, milestones, dependencies, and deliverables.
* Coordinate activities across BCSI staff, educational institutions, industry partners, subject-matter experts, contractors, and other project participants.
* Lead project meetings and ensure decisions become documented actions with clear owners and deadlines.
* Track commitments and follow up with project partners.
* Track the project budget, expenditures, invoices, and projected spending with BCSI’s financial team.
* Monitor progress against the approved scope of work and NSF requirements.
* Maintain organized project records and documentation.
* Identify risks, delays, and resource constraints early and develop potential solutions.
* Coordinate data and documentation needed for project reporting.
* Provide concise project-status updates to BCSI leadership.
What We’re Looking For
We care more about demonstrated ability than a particular career path.
Strong candidates will generally have 3+ years of experience managing or coordinating complex projects, grants, research activities, programs, or similar initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
You should bring:
* Exceptional organization and follow-through.
* Strong judgment and independent problem solving.
* Experience turning complicated requirements into actionable plans.
* Ability to manage deadlines involving people you don’t directly supervise.
* Comfort working with budgets and financial information.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Strong documentation practices.
* The ability to identify problems before they become emergencies.
Experience with NSF or other federally funded projects, higher education, research, workforce development, biotechnology, life sciences, or nonprofit organizations is valuable but not required.
PMP or CAPM certification is welcomed but not required.
Who Will Thrive Here
BCSI is a small organization doing national work. You’ll have considerable autonomy and direct access to organizational leadership.
We’re looking for someone who sees a complicated project and instinctively asks:
What needs to happen? Who owns it? What depends on what? What could go wrong? What decision needs to be made now?
This position is initially focused on one major NSF-funded project. BCSI is growing, and exceptional performance can lead to responsibility for additional projects and increased organizational responsibility over time.
