Structural Steel Field Survey Technician
Location: Maryland or Virginia – Field-Based Job Type: Direct Hire Starting Pay: $30.00/hour (higher based on experience)
Position Overview
We are hiring a Field Survey Technician with structural steel experience to support construction and steel erection projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This position focuses on field measurements, layout, alignment, and survey work at active construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Collect and record accurate field measurements using surveying equipment
- Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions
- Check elevations, embed alignment, and structural placement
- Prepare and update as-built drawings
- Support structural steel erection and verify proper alignment and placement
- Coordinate with other trades to maintain structural accuracy and plumbness
- Assist with installation of structural and miscellaneous metals, including stairs and shafts
- Use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office
- Follow site safety requirements and maintain safe work practices
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel erection or field surveying
- Experience with surveying slopes, grades, and layout for structural and miscellaneous metals
- Proficiency with a total station or similar surveying equipment
- Working knowledge of AISC standards related to building alignment and orientation
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with field crews and other trades
- Willingness to travel regularly to job sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic
- Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors
