POSITION OVERVIEW The Engineer is responsible for independently designing and modifying power system protection and automation schemes, preparing engineering documentation, and supporting commissioning activities. This role requires professional judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to work on multiple projects with moderate supervision. POSITION DETAILS Job Title: Engineer – Substation Reports To: Engineering Manager Location: Hybrid / Remote FLSA Status : Full-Time, Exempt ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Design substation protection schemes and specify relays for use in redundant protection systems. Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations. Perform protective relay coordination studies and program substation relays. Conduct short-circuits analysis and develops relay settings for electromechanical and microprocessor relays. Provide technical guidance to contractors, clients, and other engineers. Assist with commissioning of new equipment and troubleshoot existing facilities. Analyze fault events and prepare sequence-of-events reports. Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years of electric utility or power engineering experience performing engineering calculations and design work. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES Proficiency in CAD and electrical modeling software. Strong technical writing and documentation skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. COMPENSATION This is a full-time, exempt salaried position with an annual base salary range of $80,000 – $110,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The Engineer is eligible for performance-based bonuses paid biannually, subject to company policy and individual performance standards.
