TITLE: Assistant Teacher

STATUS: Part-Time

REPORTS TO: Children's Center Director

Qualifications:

  • A two-year degree in Early Childhood Minimum of 12 ECE units while actively enrolled in ECE classes toward at least the PUC Professional Achievement Recognition certification, lever 2 or higher.
  • Has knowledge of and understands Title 22 licensing
  • Meets the requirements for a physical exam, testing (Dtap, MMR, TB, CPR) and background
  • Evidence of emotional maturity, stability and physical
  • Evidence of good judgement, problem solving
  • Skillful at providing safe supervision and awareness of student’s environment at all
  • Ability to communicate with parents, colleagues and director in an open, friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group
  • Ability to create and maintain a clean, orderly and safe learning
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to young

Responsibilities:

General

  • Reports to work on time and follows schedules as assigned
  • Is familiar with local personnel procedural policies (e.g. sick leave, requesting time off, )
  • Is familiar with local school handbook and SECC Early Childhood Employee handbook (purple book and can be found at https://secceducation.org).
  • Will be a team player and work with other staff with positive attitude and open
  • Demonstrate responsive customer
  • Assists lead teacher in anything requested (e.g. bulletin boards, snack time, indoor or outdoor transitions and activities, etc.)
  • Wears appropriate, comfortable and modest clothing in preparation for a variety of
  • Understands they are a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse and report findings to
  • Willing to take professional growth classes or workshops to acquire and maintain a state permit of PUC certification.

Supervision

  • Supervise all activities to ensure child’s safety at all
  • Interact with children in a caring manner, encouraging their involvement in
  • Make sure no child is ever left

Teaching

  • Assist lead teacher when requested in creating developmentally engaging lesson plans that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of students.
  • Assist in preparing materials needed in the classroom and for curriculum and monitor
  • Observe and record significant individual or group behavior in a timely manner and report
  • Keep classroom clean, safe, orderly and visually appealing for emotional and intellectual
  • Treat each child with respect using appropriate and positive discipline measures when needed and work with other teachers for consistency.

Physical Demands of the Job:

Due to the nature of the work and to ensure the best possible supervision/ care of children in a safe manner the employee must be able to meet the following physical demands of the job:

  • Be prepared to stand for long periods of time
