About the Role
At MR Arch Studio Design and Professional Services, we deliver architectural and design solutions that balance creativity, practicality and long-term value. Our work supports residential, commercial and mixed-use developments from early concept through technical delivery and construction.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Architect to join our team in Barry. You will take a leading role across multiple architectural projects, coordinating design development, technical documentation, consultants and client communication while helping maintain high standards throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is ideal for an architect who combines strong design judgement with technical knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to manage projects with increasing levels of responsibility.
Why Work With Us?
Project ownership: You will have the opportunity to lead projects from concept development through planning, technical design and construction.
Varied portfolio: You may work across residential, commercial, regeneration and mixed-use developments.
Design influence: We value architects who can challenge assumptions, develop thoughtful solutions and contribute meaningfully to design decisions.
Collaborative environment: You will work closely with architectural technologists, engineers, consultants, contractors and clients.
Professional development: The role provides opportunities to strengthen your leadership, project-delivery and technical-design experience.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design: Lead the development of architectural concepts and translate design objectives into practical, buildable solutions.
Project Leadership: Manage architectural projects or significant workstreams, ensuring agreed programmes, quality standards and client requirements are met.
Technical Delivery: Oversee the preparation and review of drawings, specifications, schedules and technical documentation.
Planning Coordination: Support planning applications and coordinate information required by local authorities and external consultants.
Consultant Management: Coordinate structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and other specialist consultants throughout the design process.
Client Communication: Maintain clear communication with clients, present design proposals and provide professional advice throughout project delivery.
Building Regulations: Ensure designs comply with applicable UK Building Regulations, planning requirements and relevant technical standards.
Construction Support: Respond to technical queries, review contractor information and support project teams during construction.
Design Reviews: Review work produced by architectural assistants, technologists and other team members to maintain consistency and quality.
Risk Management: Identify design, programme and technical risks early and work with the wider project team to develop appropriate solutions.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: Ideally 5–8 years of post-qualification professional experience in architecture, with responsibility for delivering projects through multiple RIBA work stages.
Professional Qualification: ARB registration is required. RIBA membership or equivalent professional involvement would be advantageous.
Project Delivery: Strong experience taking architectural projects from design development through technical delivery and construction.
Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, planning processes, construction methods and technical detailing.
Design Skills: Ability to develop strong architectural concepts while considering cost, programme, sustainability and buildability.
Client Management: Confidence communicating directly with clients and presenting design and technical recommendations.
Coordination: Experience working with multidisciplinary consultant teams and coordinating complex project information.
Organisation: Ability to manage several priorities while maintaining accuracy, deadlines and documentation standards.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with residential, commercial or mixed-use developments.
- Strong Revit skills.
- Experience working within BIM environments.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and architectural visualisation tools.
- Experience preparing and coordinating planning applications.
- Knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work.
- Experience administering or supporting construction-stage projects.
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and low-carbon building strategies.
- Experience mentoring junior architects or architectural assistants.
- Familiarity with NEC, JCT or other commonly used UK construction contracts.
- Previous experience working on projects in Wales or South Wales.
You do not need to meet every desirable requirement. If you have strong architectural project-delivery experience, sound technical judgement and the ability to take ownership of projects, we would be interested in hearing from you.
What We Value
We are looking for someone who is creative, technically confident and comfortable taking responsibility for both design quality and project delivery.
We particularly value architects who can communicate clearly with clients and consultants, resolve technical issues constructively and maintain design intent as projects move from concept into construction.
You should also be comfortable supporting less experienced team members and contributing to a collaborative studio culture focused on quality, professionalism and practical design.
Application
If you are an experienced architect with a strong background in design, technical delivery and project coordination and are looking for a new opportunity in Barry, we encourage you to apply.
Please submit an up-to-date CV and portfolio showing your role on completed or ongoing projects, including examples of concept development, technical design and construction-stage involvement.
