The role
We're looking for a Senior Backend & Platform Engineer to take ownership of our AWS infrastructure while contributing directly to the development of our software platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role combining cloud infrastructure and application development. You'll be responsible for ensuring our production environment is reliable, secure and scalable, while spending a significant proportion of your time writing production software.
Depending on your background, your development work will focus on either our core Java platform or our Python-based market access and trading technology.
You'll be part of a small engineering team with considerable autonomy and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across our systems.
What you'll be working on
- Taking ownership of our AWS infrastructure, including reliability, security, performance and ongoing improvements.
- Developing and maintaining production software in Java/Spring Boot or Python.
- Managing containerised services, deployment pipelines and infrastructure as code.
- Improving monitoring, observability and incident response.
- Identifying and resolving infrastructure and application issues in production.
- Working closely with other engineers to improve the architecture, reliability and maintainability of our systems.
What we're looking for
- Strong commercial software engineering experience in either Java/Spring Boot or Python.
- Substantial hands-on AWS experience, including responsibility for production infrastructure.
- Experience working with containers and infrastructure as code.
- Good understanding of CI/CD, monitoring and observability.
- Solid knowledge of cloud networking, IAM and security.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across infrastructure and application code.
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership and collaborate effectively within a small engineering team.
- We don't expect candidates to be proficient in both Java and Python. Strong experience in either language, combined with solid infrastructure expertise, is what matters.
