Job Summary
The Steel Foreman is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing reinforcement steel works as per approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules. The role involves managing steel fixers, coordinating with shuttering, concrete, and engineering teams, and ensuring safe and productive site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Execution & Supervision
- Supervise all reinforcement steel fixing activities at site.
- Interpret structural drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and specifications.
- Ensure steel cutting, bending, placement, lapping, anchoring, and tying are executed correctly.
- Monitor productivity and ensure daily targets are achieved.
- Coordinate with shuttering, formwork, and concreting teams for smooth workflow.
Manpower Management
- Allocate work to steel fixers and subcontractor teams.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and discipline of workforce.
- Train workers on correct reinforcement practices and quality requirements.
- Ensure adequate manpower availability for planned activities.
Quality Control
- Verify reinforcement work before inspection and concreting.
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, IS codes, and project specifications.
- Check cover blocks, spacing, laps, bends, and reinforcement positioning.
- Coordinate with QA/QC engineers for inspections and closure of observations.
Safety & Compliance
- Implement site safety procedures and toolbox talks.
- Ensure workers use required PPE.
- Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective actions.
- Maintain housekeeping and safe working conditions in work areas.
Material & Resource Management
- Monitor steel consumption and minimize wastage.
- Coordinate with stores for material availability.
- Maintain records of steel received, issued, and utilized.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of reinforcement materials.
Coordination & Reporting
- Report daily progress to Site Engineer/Senior Engineer.
- Highlight delays, material shortages, and manpower issues.
- Participate in planning and progress review meetings.
- Maintain daily work records and productivity reports.
Required Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Civil Engineering preferred.
- Certification or training in reinforcement/formwork systems is an advantage.
- Ability to read and understand structural drawings and BBS.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience as Steel Foreman in high-rise, commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with conventional and aluminum formwork projects preferred.
