Operations Manager: Office Furniture and Workplace Installation
Location: Leyland, Lancashire (UK-wide and European projects) Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 basic, plus a £10,000 on-target bonus (OTE £45,000 to £50,000), company phone and laptop
About us
We're a well-established office installation and logistics business based in the North West. We deliver office furniture, acoustic booths and workplace fit-outs for major brands and dealers across the UK and Europe. We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced Operations Manager to bring our projects, planning and field teams together and deliver every job to a consistently high standard.
The role
You'll take ownership of day-to-day operations, from the moment a job comes in to the moment it's signed off on site. You'll lead the field teams, work closely with projects and planning, manage costs and drive performance across the division.
What you'll be doing
- Leading our installation crews, drivers and crew hands, who report to you on live jobs
- Working with the projects and planning teams so that every job is resourced, scheduled, costed and briefed correctly
- Planning UK-wide logistics, including routes, vehicle loads, travel, overnights and manpower, to get the best use of every van and every person
- Knowing how long installs should take, checking quality and methods on site, and challenging work that isn't right
- Reading job reports and timesheets, and spotting overruns, wasted labour and repeat issues
- Managing the manpower, wage and fleet budgets, and monitoring job costings and margins
- Full people management: recruitment, onboarding, training plans, six-weekly reviews, disciplinaries and dismissals
- Making sure clocking in and out, paperwork and company procedures are followed
- Acting on compliance and audit findings with the team
- Running the fleet and the depot, including vehicle maintenance, servicing and depot standards
- Improving our processes and reporting
- Reporting monthly on performance, budgets, recruitment and training, with proposals for improvement
Who we're looking for
This is a specialist role. We need someone who has worked in the office furniture, workplace fit-out or furniture logistics industry, not general team management in another sector.
Essential
- At least 3 years' experience in office furniture installation, workplace fit-out or furniture logistics, at supervisor, contracts manager or operations level
- Hands-on knowledge of installing office furniture, from desking and storage to screens and seating, enough to judge timings, methods and quality
- Experience planning and running multi-drop or multi-site work across the UK, including vehicles, routes and overnight jobs
- A proven record of managing teams in this industry, including handling discipline and performance
- A good commercial understanding: budgets, labour costs, job costings and margins
- Confidence reading reports and data, then acting on them
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience installing or maintaining acoustic pods and booths
- A background working your way up from the tools to management
- Experience working with furniture manufacturers, dealers or main contractors
- Knowledge of van fleet management and driver compliance
What we offer
- £35,000 to £40,000 basic salary
- £10,000 on-target performance bonus (OTE £45,000 to £50,000)
- Company phone and laptop
- Real scope to grow with the business and take on more responsibility
- High-profile projects across the UK and Europe
To apply, send your CV with a short note on your office furniture and installation experience. Applications without relevant office furniture, fit-out or furniture logistics experience will not be considered
Pay: £35,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
