This position supervises/manages : Producer, Social Media and Producer, Marketing Content

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Integrated Communications, the Manager, Content owns the SPCA of Texas's "story engine" and is responsible for leading content planning, development, and execution across multiple marketing channels and keeping stories, campaigns, and communications clear, compelling, accurate, and aligned with organizational priorities.

The Manager, Content builds trusted partnerships across the organization with key leaders in Development, Operations, Animal Cruelty Investigations, Veterinary Services, Lifesaving Programs, and Customer Care to identify compelling stories and impactful content that informs and engages the community through program education, animal adoption and foster care, and fundraising initiatives. Summary of Essential Responsibilities: Content Strategy & Storytelling Develop and manage the editorial strategy, content priorities, and publishing approach across editorial, social media, video, web, and emerging platforms in alignment with the organization's integrated communications strategy.

  • Plan, write, and publish content across multiple channels including blogs, web stories, general marketing copy, and other organizational storytelling opportunities.

  • Identify, create, and coordinate compelling stories that support fundraising, marketing, public relations, education, and community engagement efforts.

  • Collaborate with the Director, Integrated Communications, to develop and maintain a structured, efficient editorial calendar that allows for cross-organizational input.

  • Manage the coordination of public-facing content, ensuring accuracy, alignment with organizational standards, and sound judgment regarding privacy, consent, confidentiality, and sensitive or potentially graphic content – protecting the reputation and integrity of the SPCA of Texas.

  • Serve as an occasional spokesperson and represent the SPCA of Texas at events, media opportunities including radio and television, community functions, and speaking engagements as assigned. Multimedia & Content Production

  • Manage two direct reports responsible for social media, photography, and videography operations.

  • Supervise online reputation activities and create strategic responses across digital platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Google Reviews, Yelp, etc.) as needed.

  • Collaborate with the internal creative team, freelancers, and external partners to develop and execute content projects efficiently and accurately.

  • Lead project management, including project timelines, content development, reviews and approvals, program execution, and publication.

  • Ensure that all content assets are well-organized, easily accessible, properly documented, and aligned with brand standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with key leaders in Development, Operations, Animal Cruelty Investigations, Veterinary Services, Lifesaving Programs, People and Culture, and Customer Care to identify relevant stories that support key priorities including fundraising, stewardship, program education, community engagement, and culture and recruiting efforts.

  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Creative Services, and the Manager, Public Relations, to align campaign execution, enhance visual storytelling and messaging, support earned media opportunities, and ensure consistency across channels.

  • Support internal organizational events, campaigns, and initiatives through content creation, program activation, and execution.

Team & Culture

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, solutions-oriented team environment.

  • Actively engage with volunteers in ways that support volunteers, staff, and organizational culture.

  • Be an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas and remain knowledgeable about programs, services, and organizational priorities.

  • Supervise a team of high-performing subject matter experts, providing an environment built on learning and growth.

Workflow, Organization & Reporting

  • Prioritize and assign content projects based on organizational priorities, audience needs, deadlines, and team capacity.

  • Maintain clear workflows and project coordination using Asana, monitoring progress and flagging timeline risks or obstacles as they arise.

  • Maintain documentation, institutional knowledge, templates, and content resources.

  • Track and report on content performance, using data, audience insights, and campaign engagement metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and inform strategy and future planning

  • Move stories and content seamlessly from ideas to publication, ensuring accuracy, brand compliance, and sound editorial judgment, protecting the organization’s integrity and reputation.

  • Create trusted, cross-organizational partnerships with key department leaders and consistently surface stories that drive engagement across multiple audiences.

  • Create and manage editorial calendars, project workflows, and production timelines that simplify the process, identify risks early, and deliver projects efficiently and on schedule.

  • Regularly report on content effectiveness supported by data and insights, using the metrics to sharpen the content strategy and inform future planning.

Position Requirements

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional editorial judgment.

  • Be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.

  • Work collaboratively across departments and personalities, building trust and consensus.

  • Demonstrate emotional resilience and make sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in content development, communications, journalism, storytelling, multimedia production, marketing, or public relations.

  • Experience coordinating content across multiple channels including digital and traditional platforms.

  • Minimum of three to five years of experience supervising, coaching, and developing direct reports.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit, animal welfare, healthcare, education, or mission-driven communications environments preferred.

  • Experience with platforms and tools including WordPress, Mailchimp, Meta platforms, GA4, Asana, and Microsoft Office 365.

  • While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Working Conditions: The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.
  • Ability to work in a shelter environment around animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events.
  • Ability to lift and transport photography and video equipment (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to meet insurance requirements.
  • Must be qualified and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Texas and eligible to be an approved SPCA of Texas driver.
