Quality Engineer

Location: Telford, Shropshire Salary: £42,000 per annum Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Working Pattern: Day Shift Hours: 40 hours per week, 08:30–17:00

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Quality Engineer to join a busy manufacturing environment in Telford, working within the Spares Department.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving quality standards across the business, supporting customer and supplier quality requirements, investigating issues and driving effective corrective and preventative actions.

This is a hands-on quality engineering position involving problem solving, auditing, data analysis, quality systems and cross-functional improvement activity. You will work closely with internal teams, customers and suppliers to prevent defects, reduce variation and improve overall quality performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage customer-specific quality requirements and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Investigate and manage supplier quality concerns in conjunction with relevant internal teams.
  • Support customer and supplier containment, including timely escalation and resolution of quality concerns.
  • Investigate courier and transportation-related damage, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage customer concerns relating to the Spares operation, working closely with relevant internal departments.
  • Support product compliance issues involving customers and suppliers.
  • Process and manage non-conformances identified within the Spares function.
  • Triage component investigation and quality-related issues, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
  • Develop, implement and maintain Control Plans and supporting quality controls.
  • Maintain effective traceability and accurate quality records to support trend analysis.
  • Lead 8D and A3 problem-solving activities with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and implement effective corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct internal process, product and compliance audits and support the effective closure of audit findings.
  • Participate in internal quality review and CAPA processes.
  • Analyse quality data, identify trends and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive improvements in quality performance.
  • Ensure quality standards and procedures are clearly defined, understood and maintained.
  • Identify opportunities to prevent defects and ensure quality controls are consistently followed.
  • Support external and internal compliance audits.
  • Provide training and support on quality processes, audit requirements and quality awareness.
  • Maintain and update relevant quality documentation.
  • Support the wider Quality team in implementing quality strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor quality KPIs and provide accurate reports and data to management.
  • Support the management of internal, customer and supplier quality issues.
  • Work with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities and projects.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a Quality Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience working within an ISO 9001 environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Strong experience in structured problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Experience investigating quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent Excel skills, including creating, manipulating and presenting data.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to produce clear reports and presentations for colleagues and management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Confident working with customers, suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Control Plans.
  • Knowledge of APQP and PPAP.
  • Experience with SPC and MSA.
  • Knowledge of Gauge R&R.
  • Experience using FMEA.
  • Understanding of metrology principles and measurement techniques.
  • Experience with 8D, A3 and CAPA methodologies.
  • Previous experience within an automotive or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience conducting internal or external quality audits.
  • Experience delivering quality-related training.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an analytical and proactive Quality Engineer who takes a data-driven approach to problem solving.

You will be confident investigating issues, identifying root causes and working with different teams to implement sustainable solutions. Strong communication and influencing skills are important, as the role involves working across departments and with customers and suppliers.

You should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities and driving improvements while maintaining a strong focus on customer requirements, quality standards and continuous improvement.
