Trade Settlement Responsibilities

The role holder is accountable for the timely, accurate, and controlled settlement of Wealth Management transactions across assigned products, markets, booking centres, and legal entities.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end settlement activities for relevant Wealth Management products, including equities, fixed income securities, exchange-traded products, structured products, mutual funds, managed investments, foreign exchange, and other investment products within the role’s scope.

  • Ensure settlement instructions are complete, accurate, appropriately authorised, and released within applicable market, custodian, counterparty, and internal cut-off times.

  • Monitor settlement positions, unmatched transactions, pending trades, failed settlements, market claims, cash requirements, and stock availability.

  • Ensure timely investigation and resolution of settlement exceptions, including instruction mismatches, insufficient cash or securities, incorrect settlement details, static-data issues, counterparty discrepancies, and system-processing failures.

  • Coordinate with counterparties, custodians, depositories, brokers, transfer agents, market infrastructures, business teams, and internal support functions to resolve settlement-related issues. Maintain appropriate oversight of trade matching, confirmation, settlement-status monitoring, and transaction booking across relevant operational platforms.

  • Ensure cash and securities obligations are accurately reflected in the relevant nostro, custody, depository, suspense, stock, position, and balance-sheet accounts.

  • Review and resolve cash, stock, position, and settlement reconciliation breaks within agreed timelines.

  • Ensure failed or potentially failing trades are identified early, assigned to the appropriate owner, and escalated before applicable market or client deadlines.

  • Assess the client, financial, liquidity, market, regulatory, and reputational impact of settlement failures and take appropriate mitigating action.

  • Monitor aged settlement items and ensure that unresolved exceptions have documented ownership, investigation status, action plans, and escalation dates.

  • Ensure settlement-related fees, penalties, interest claims, market claims, compensation requests, and potential losses are investigated and processed in accordance with applicable procedures and authority levels.

  • Support the management of corporate-action-related settlement events where these affect open, pending, or failed transactions.

  • Ensure settlement reversals, cancellations, amendments, back-valued transactions, and manual interventions are appropriately authorised, documented, and independently controlled.

  • Maintain effective controls over transaction release, settlement instruction changes, standing settlement instructions, manual payments, and securities movements.

  • Ensure material settlement incidents, losses, near misses, control failures, client complaints, and recurring exceptions are recorded, escalated, and subjected to root-cause analysis.

  • Produce timely and accurate management information covering settlement volumes, success rates, failed trades, aged items, unmatched transactions, operational losses, service performance, and material risks.

  • Analyse recurring settlement issues and work with business, product, technology, operations, and external service providers to implement sustainable remediation.

  • Support market and regulatory changes affecting the settlement operating model, including changes to settlement cycles, market practices, reporting obligations, matching requirements, or market infrastructure.

  • Contribute to settlement automation, process standardisation, straight-through processing, exception-based processing, and reduction of manual intervention.

  • Maintain current procedures, process maps, control documentation, escalation matrices, and business-continuity arrangements for critical settlement activities. Ensure sufficient operational capacity, trained resources, cross-skilling, and appropriate coverage are maintained for market deadlines, peak periods, holidays, and contingency events.
