The North Regional Division (NRD) provides project development, technical design, and design oversight for projects in District four (4) and five (5). Working alongside the New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) General Office and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) personnel, the North Region Division advances NMDOT projects through both internal design efforts and consultant oversight. The NRD is also provides oversight on local agency projects that use federal funding for design and construction activities. The North Region Division is based out of the Santa Fe NMDOT General Office and is comprised of professional engineers, technicians, and administrative support staff.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Why does the job exist?
This position serves to lead and manage project development activities and engineering functions of the North Region Design Office to meet commitments of the NMDOT.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Overseeing and managing the North Region Design with responsibilities for project development, design, and preparation of construction plans for the State Transportation Improvement Program within primarily District 4 and 5 along with other miscellaneous projects.
- Provide team leadership, management, consensus and guidance to ensure compliance with established Department of Transportation and Federal policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and eight (8) years of engineering experience, four (4) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer and (2) years of experience in a supervisory/managerial role. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Working conditions for individual positions in this classification will vary based on each agency's utilization, essential functions and the recruitment needs at the time a vacancy is posted. All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers, printers and phone usage. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
