The Opportunity

We are seeking a Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer to join our growing team in a role combining both site and office-based work at our Head Office in Preston, Lancashire.

You will contribute to a wide range of projects through fieldwork and technical reporting across a diverse portfolio of developments, from major infrastructure, defence and energy projects to commercial and residential developments.

This is a hands-on position within a collaborative team, offering strong exposure to both practical site work and technical development.

The Role

As a Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will support the delivery of ground investigation projects, balancing site work with technical reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

Reporting & Technical Work

  • Logging soil and rock samples in accordance with British Standards and Eurocode 7
  • Preparation of factual and interpretative reports
  • Phase 1 Desk Studies
  • Phase 2 Intrusive Ground Investigation Reports
  • Phase 3 Remediation Strategies
  • Phase 4 Validation Reports
  • In-situ testing calculations

Site Work & Project Support

  • Project Management
  • Assisting with the setup, coordination, and supervision of site investigation works.
  • Logging soil and rock samples in accordance with British Standards and Eurocode 7
  • Setting out exploratory hole locations and undertaking CAT scanning
  • Supervising drilling operations and site activities
  • Undertaking trial pit excavation, sampling, and in-situ testing
  • Liaising with subcontractors and clients on site
  • Supporting safe and efficient site operations

What we’re Looking For

We are looking for a motivated and practical engineer with around 1-4 years’ experience, keen to develop within a hands-on, project-focused environment.

Essential:

  • Live locally, or be willing to live locally, to Preston
  • A Bachelors or Masters in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and colleagues
  • Willingness to undertake site-based work in varying conditions when required
  • Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)

Desirable:

  • Experience in the ground investigation industry
  • Familiarity with BS5930 and Eurocode 7
  • Experience in technical report writing

Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Working Arrangements & Benefits

  • Full-time role – office and site based
  • Monday to Friday (occasional weekend work may be required)
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • 08:30 - 17:00 (earlier starts required for site work)
