Job Description
What we are looking for
We are seeking a mid-level or senior engineer with Electronic Warfare (EW) and/or Radar expertise, particularly in RF modelling, to join our Electronic Warfare Modelling and Simulation team.
Working alongside Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) researchers and Swordfish engineers, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of advanced Electronic Warfare simulation capabilities used to investigate emerging technologies, evaluate EW concepts and support Defence research.
This role combines EW/Radar domain expertise, mathematical modelling and hands-on software development. You will translate complex engineering concepts into computational models and algorithms, develop and integrate simulation capabilities, and analyse the performance of EW systems in realistic scenarios.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong technical foundation in radar, RF systems and/or electronic warfare.
- Enjoys modelling and complex engineering problem-solving.
- Can translate engineering concepts into software implementations.
- Values high-quality engineering practices and collaborative development.
- Is enthusiastic about Defence research and developing innovative technical solutions.
What you will do
- Engage with Defence researchers and engineering colleagues to understand EW/Radar research objectives and modelling requirements.
- Implement and integrate EW/RF models within an established software simulation environment using languages such as Python, C++, C# or MATLAB.
- Investigate and model capabilities such as radar detection and tracking, electronic attack, electronic protection and RF system performance.
- Develop simulation scenarios and undertake analysis studies to evaluate emerging EW concepts and capabilities.
- Analyse simulation outputs, verify model behaviour and communicate findings through technical reports, documentation and demonstrations.
- Research, design and develop computational models of radar, RF and electronic warfare systems.
- Collaborate with software and systems engineers on model integration, technical design and simulation architecture.
- Contribute to technical reviews, software quality and continuous improvement activities.
- For senior candidates, provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.

Electronic Warfare Engineering
Demonstrated expertise in EW engineering, with experience in several of the following areas:
- Radar theory, architectures and operating principles.
- RF systems, electromagnetic propagation and antenna fundamentals.
- Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP) or Electronic Support (ES).
- Radar detection, tracking and signal analysis.
- RF system performance analysis and evaluation.
Modelling, Simulation and Mathematics
- Experience developing mathematical or computational models of RF, radar, electronic warfare or closely related systems.
- Understanding of concepts relevant to RF modelling.
- Experience developing, evaluating or validating simulation models and algorithms.
- Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into computational representations.
Software Development
- Practical software development experience using at least one relevant programming language, such as Python, C++, C# or MATLAB.
- Understanding of software design, implementation, testing and integration principles.
- Ability to develop, maintain and troubleshoot software in a collaborative technical environment.
Communication and Collaboration
- Strong analytical thinking and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to colleagues and Defence stakeholders.
- Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
