Founding Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Founding Senior Backend Engineer who wants to go beyond writing code and take complete ownership of the backend architecture, engineering foundations, and technical direction of an emerging AI-native product.

The Opportunity

This is a founding engineering position for an experienced backend professional who thrives in high-ownership environments.

You will work closely with the founding team to architect, build, and scale the core backend infrastructure from the ground up. You will influence critical engineering decisions, establish development standards, and build AI-powered product capabilities that directly impact end users.

If you have built production-grade B2C systems, independently driven backend architecture, and actively leverage LLMs and agentic tools throughout the software development lifecycle, this opportunity offers the chance to make a significant technical and product impact.

Key Responsibilities:-

1. Backend Architecture & Engineering Ownership

• Architect, design, and develop scalable backend systems using Node.js.
• Build core backend services, RESTful APIs, and application infrastructure from the ground up.
• Own end-to-end system design, including service boundaries, data flow, caching strategies, queues, and asynchronous processing.
• Make critical architecture decisions while balancing scalability, performance, reliability, and development speed.

2. AI-Native Product Engineering

• Design, develop, and ship AI/ML-powered product features using LLMs and agentic workflows.
• Build intelligent backend capabilities that integrate AI-driven functionality into real-world consumer applications.
• Leverage LLMs and agentic development tools throughout the SDLC, including architecture, code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization.
• Evaluate and implement practical AI engineering approaches to improve product capabilities and development efficiency.

3. Database Design & Performance Optimization

• Design efficient data models and database architectures using SQL and NoSQL technologies.
• Optimize database queries, indexing strategies, and data access patterns.
• Implement caching, background processing, and event-driven mechanisms where appropriate.
• Ensure data consistency, application performance, and system reliability.

4. API Development & Third-Party Integrations

• Develop robust REST APIs and integrate external platforms and services.
• Build secure, maintainable, and scalable backend integration layers.
• Establish best practices for API design, error handling, monitoring, and service communication.

5. Production Ownership & Engineering Excellence

• Take complete ownership of backend reliability, production performance, and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose complex technical issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Establish engineering standards, code quality practices, and development workflows.
• Contribute to technical decisions and shape the backend engineering culture as the team expands.

Mandatory Technical Requirements:_

Candidates must demonstrate strong practical experience in the following areas:

• Node.js: 7+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience building production-grade applications.
• Backend Architecture: Proven ownership of end-to-end backend system design and greenfield development.
• B2C Product Engineering: Experience building and scaling consumer-facing products with meaningful user adoption.
• AI-Native Development: Active use of LLMs and agentic engineering tools across the software development lifecycle.
• LLM & Agentic Products: Hands-on experience building and shipping end-user products powered by LLMs and agentic workflows.
• System Design: Strong understanding of microservices/service boundaries, caching, queues, data flow, scalability, and reliability.
• Database Engineering: Strong SQL and/or NoSQL database design and query optimization experience.
• API Engineering: Experience designing and developing scalable REST APIs and third-party integrations.

Pay: ₹4,000,000.00 - ₹7,000,000.00 per year
