**About the Role**

We are seeking an experienced **Database Developer** to join the Data and Information Systems Branch (DIS) team supporting NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

In this position, you will play a central role in modernizing database architecture to handle cutting\-edge **Electronic Monitoring (EM)** and **AI\-generated fisheries data**. You will design database schemas for AI outputs, construct automated ingestion procedures, and integrate post\-processed EM datasets into unified presentation views (Compass). Your work will establish the core data infrastructure required for enterprise\-level QA/QC auditing processes across marine monitoring initiatives.

**Key Responsibilities**

* **AI Data Schema Architecture:** Design and execute database schema updates to accommodate AI\-generated EM datasets, creating specialized fields for confidence scores, Regions of Interest (ROIs), and metadata. * **Ingestion \& Validation Workflows:** Develop robust database procedures to ingest, validate, and compare third\-party AI algorithm outputs against holdout validation sets, managing secure provider data access during evaluation phases. * **Modernized EM Data Access:** Integrate EM post\-processed datasets into **Compass presentation views** to provide modernized, streamlined data access for viewing, editing, and managing EM data. * **Data Integration \& QA/QC Support:** Build unified data pipelines and structures that serve as the foundation for multi\-system reporting and advanced QA/QC auditing workflows. * **System Operations \& Support:** Perform database tuning, routine monitoring, audit logging, patch coordination, and troubleshooting to maintain peak system performance and security. * **Agile \& Version Control:** Collaborate with cross\-functional teams in daily Scrums and bi\-weekly Sprints, maintaining all code and database scripts within Git/GitHub repositories. * **Documentation:** Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, data models, and SOPs for all database projects.

**Qualifications \& Requirements**

* **Experience:** 4\+ years of hands\-on database development and data modeling experience. * **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. * **Database \& SQL Mastery:** Proficient in database design, performance tuning, and writing complex stored procedures and queries (PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL). * **Data Pipeline Development:** Experience designing database schemas for complex/unstructured metadata (e.g., AI/ML outputs, ROIs, confidence scores) and developing automated validation routines. * **Methodologies \& Tools:** Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and code versioning using **Git/GitHub**. * **Communication \& Collaboration:** Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively within dispersed, multi\-disciplinary teams.

**Preferred Qualifications**

* Experience with Oracle APEX, SQL Developer, or AWS/GCP cloud database integrations. * Background in developing data presentation views or integrating disparate data sources into unified reporting interfaces (e.g., Compass views). * Familiarity with fisheries monitoring data, scientific sampling programs, or computer vision metadata outputs.

We value energetic professionals eager to make impactful contributions in a fast\-paced environment while advancing their expertise in cutting\-edge data architectures.
