Derline Software is seeking a Technical Writer to create clear, accurate documentation for business software products. You will work with engineers, product managers, and customer support specialists to help users understand product features, complete tasks, and troubleshoot common issues.

This position is fully remote. Applicants must reside and perform their work in Texas. No office attendance or travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain user guides, setup instructions, tutorials, troubleshooting articles, and release notes.
  • Interview subject matter experts and translate technical information into practical, easy-to-follow instructions.
  • Test documented procedures in a product testing environment to verify accuracy.
  • Update documentation to reflect product releases and interface changes.
  • Organize content so users can quickly find relevant information.
  • Maintain consistent terminology, formatting, and editorial standards.
  • Review documentation feedback and identify missing or outdated content.
  • Coordinate documentation reviews and deadlines with product and engineering teams.
  • Follow company requirements for handling confidential information.

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of technical writing experience for software or technology products.
  • A portfolio demonstrating clear, well-structured technical documentation.
  • Strong written English, editing, and information-organization skills.
  • Ability to understand software workflows and explain them to nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience writing and formatting content in Markdown.
  • Familiarity with Git-based review workflows or comparable documentation version-control tools.
  • Ability to gather information independently and manage multiple documentation assignments.
  • Reliable internet access and a suitable workspace.
  • Texas residency and authorization to work in the United States.

A degree in technical communication, English, computer science, or a related field is helpful but not required. Equivalent professional experience is welcome.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience documenting cloud-based business software.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and tools such as Postman.
  • Experience maintaining a help center or knowledge base.
  • Understanding of accessible content practices and task-based documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed product and engineering teams.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Central Time, including a one-hour meal break.

The regular schedule is 40 working hours per week. Routine evening, weekend, and on-call work is not required.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary is $80,000–$110,000, depending on relevant experience, documentation skills, and technical knowledge.
