As a Product Developer in our Industrial Trade & Converting (IT&C) business unit, you will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of innovative self-adhesive tape solutions for masking, packaging and repairing applications. You will work at the intersection of product development, materials science, production and market requirements, translating customer and business needs into high-performance tape solutions.
From the initial idea and feasibility assessment through development, qualification and scale-up into serial production, you will drive product development projects in close collaboration with internal and external partners. At the same time, you will contribute to maintaining and further improving our existing product portfolio and strengthening our technological know-how in relevant adhesive and tape technologies.
The role offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of technologies, materials and applications while collaborating with colleagues across R&D, Marketing, Production, Procurement and other functions in an international environment.
Your tasks include:
- Develop and optimize self-adhesive tape solutions for masking, packaging and repairing applications, considering performance, quality, cost and sustainability requirements
- Develop, evaluate, qualify and implement new materials, formulations, components and technologies
- Translate customer, market and business requirements into technical product concepts and development activities
- Lead and manage product development projects and feasibility studies from initial concept through qualification and implementation
- Build and maintain technical know-how in collaboration with internal experts, suppliers, research institutions and other external partners
- Identify, evaluate and qualify new raw materials, technologies and suppliers
- Plan, execute and evaluate laboratory and application tests to validate product performance and suitability for defined applications
- Drive the transfer and scale-up of successful product developments from laboratory and pilot scale into serial production in close collaboration with manufacturing and process experts
- Ensure the technical maintenance, optimization and continuous improvement of existing products throughout their lifecycle
- Act as a technical interface between Marketing, Central R&D, Production, Procurement, Quality and other relevant functions
- Monitor relevant market, technology and material developments and identify opportunities for innovation and product portfolio improvement
- Conduct patent and technology landscape research and contribute to patent expert groups and the protection of tesa's intellectual property
- Document development activities, results and technical decisions and ensure effective knowledge transfer within the organization What you will need
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related technical field, ideally with a focus on adhesives, polymers, coatings or related technologies
- Initial professional experience in product development, R&D or a related technical environment is desirable
- Practical experience with self-adhesive products, polymer technologies, coatings or tape technologies is a strong advantage
- Structured, analytical and proactive approach to problem-solving, combined with a creative and solution-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage technical projects independently and translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions
- Strong interest in understanding customer applications and developing products that create tangible value
- Passion for working in interdisciplinary and international teams and collaborating effectively with different stakeholders
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Fluent written and spoken English skills; German language skills are an advantage What you can expect
