What to Expect
Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Revolutionary strategies and products were developed within a few years and successfully launched on a large scale. This is only possible through extraordinary speed, innovation and efficiency. The most important pillar for this are our employees. Their passion, motivation and engagement ensure that we achieve our goals. We are looking for you to join our team and build Tesla's future together.
The role
Tesla's cell manufacturing group at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is looking for an Associate Process Development Engineer to support development, commissioning and ramp of electrode mixing processes for anode and cathode. You will work with the process development team to run trials, collect and analyze process data, and support troubleshooting on high-throughput mixing equipment.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to contribute directly to product quality and to how the mixing process is run. The work is hands-on, fast-paced and technical. The ideal candidate learns quickly, keeps clear records, and is comfortable both on the production floor and in the data.
What You'll Do Support development, commissioning and ramp of electrode mixing processes, including powder handling, dry mixing and the steps that feed electrode manufacturing.
- Execute trials and sample plans. Collect process and quality data and summarize the results for the team.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis with a data-driven approach, and bring a proposed next step.
- Participate in design reviews and share observations on how product and process requirements show up in day-to-day operation.
- Contribute to process documentation and to training material for handover to production, quality and maintenance.
- Build a working understanding of the mixing equipment, P&IDs and process data used on the line, and apply that understanding in trials and production support.
- Follow cell-production safety requirements, including LOTO, gowning and powder-handling controls.
What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master's degree, or a thesis or internship in mixing, powder processing or chemical processing, is an advantage.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience. Internships, co-ops, thesis work or laboratory experience in process development, powder handling, mixing or manufacturing all count.
- Solid engineering fundamentals and a willingness to learn.
- Able to follow a test plan, keep clear records, and explain the result in writing and in a team discussion.
- Aptitude for data analysis. Exposure to statistical software, P&IDs, SPC or MES is a plus.
- English is required. German is a plus for day-to-day work at GFBB.
- Willing to support trials on the production floor and to travel occasionally to other Tesla cell sites, including the US.
