Job Summary:
The Software Engineer will design, develop, test, deploy and maintain high-quality software solutions that support the organisation’s internal operations and customer-facing services. The role will have a strong focus on C# and .NET development, including the creation of secure, scalable applications, APIs and system integrations.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across IT and the wider business, the Software Engineer will translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions while contributing to coding standards, continuous improvement and effective software delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and maintain applications and services using C# and the .NET platform.
- Develop and support RESTful APIs and system integrations between business applications, services and third-party platforms.
- Produce clean, maintainable and well-documented code in line with agreed development standards and secure coding practices.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and technical design through to deployment and ongoing support.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, performance issues and integration failures, completing root cause analysis where appropriate.
- Create and maintain automated unit and integration tests to improve software quality and reliability.
- Use source control, peer review and CI/CD practices to support controlled and repeatable software releases.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, technical colleagues, Customers and third-party suppliers to understand requirements and deliver practical, business-focused solutions.
- Support the upgrade, optimisation and ongoing maintenance of key systems, applications and integrations.
Requirements:
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in software development.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs, web services and system integrations.
- Experience with ASP.NET Core and associated Microsoft development technologies.
- Good working knowledge of relational databases, SQL and data access technologies such as Entity Framework.
- Understanding of automated testing, debugging, exception handling, logging and application monitoring.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Awareness of application security, data protection, performance and scalability considerations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues and deliver effective solutions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Ability to manage priorities, take ownership of assigned work and contribute effectively within a cross-functional team.
- Proficiency in API development using languages such as C# .NET
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud-hosted application development.
- Knowledge of front-end technologies or frameworks, such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS or Blazor.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, NetSuite, Power BI, mobile device management platforms or other enterprise business systems.
