If pest pressure shifts before crops show it, then your insight becomes the nursery's first line of defence.

Is this you?

Preventative thinking comes naturally to you. You notice small changes before they become crop-wide problems, test assumptions against evidence and follow through with discipline. Practical, calm judgement matters in your working style, as does coaching people and collaborating across production without compromising safety or environmental responsibility.

What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it)

Build and run a disciplined IPM programme across indoor ornamental pot-plant production. You will set scouting routes and intervention thresholds, diagnose pest and disease pressure, plan compatible biological, organic and chemical treatments, and track effectiveness and resistance trends. Alongside managing crop scouts and application staff, you will strengthen quarantine, nursery hygiene, chemical safety, reporting and root-cause action with growers, sourcing, quality, suppliers and sales colleagues.

Where you'll be doing it

Within a commercial protected-crop operation, plant health depends on close control of greenhouse conditions, sanitation, incoming material and treatment timing. The work connects production, sourcing, quality and external suppliers, with a clear focus on clean, healthy, saleable plants, reduced losses and traceable, safe practices. This is an on site role - working hours are 07:00 - 16:30, every 2nd Saturday 07:00-12:00 and every 2nd public holiday 07:00 - 12:00.

What you'll need

A relevant degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, plant science, agronomy, plant production, crop protection or a related field is essential, together with at least three years' practical commercial horticulture or crop-production experience. Evidence should include scouting, diagnosis, IPM implementation, pesticide application, records and supervision. Strong planning, analysis and communication are required, plus reliable transport.

What you'll get

Scope comes from owning the full IPM cycle, from early detection and trials to treatment strategy, biosecurity and team capability. You will deepen your expertise across protected crops, biological controls, greenhouse conditions and root-cause analysis while influencing plant quality, crop losses and safer production practices.
