About Ummeed:

Ummeed, a premier non-profit organization working with children with disabilities and their families in India. The organization supports children with developmental disabilities to reach their maximum potential and be included in society.

India has over 50 million children with disabilities. With access to appropriate health, intervention, education, recreation, and livelihood services they can be supported to become participative members of society. Today most of them have limited or no access to relevant knowledge and services as the number of organizations and professionals in the space are inadequate to meet the need.

Over the past 25 years, Ummeed has provided direct clinical services to 16,400+ children and families, trained over 14,600 unique professionals (community workers, doctors, therapists, and teachers) across India, and influenced the lives of over 0.73 million children and families with or at risk of developmental disabilities. In addition to direct clinical services, training, and capacity building, Ummeed’s conducts research in the field of child development, and builds awareness to sensitize people to the cause and shift attitudes towards disability and inclusion. As Ummeed looks to the future, its goal is to build on this past work to drive strategic shifts across three key ecosystems – Healthcare, Schools, and Early Childhood Development – to create a more inclusive society for children with and at high likelihood of disabilities in India.

About the position:

The Head of Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility and building awareness in the child development and developmental disabilities space. This role involves overseeing all awareness and branding, communications needs and marketing activities to ensure alignment with the organization’s vision and strategic goals.

Some base expectations from this role: -

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication, marketing, and awareness strategies to support the organization’s vision
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align communication and marketing strategies to ensure consistency in messaging and branding of the organization and its work
  • Project manages the execution of the awareness, communications, and marketing strategy, and source the required competencies internally or externally
  • Build and maintain relationships with media channels, journalists, and influencers to maximize positive coverage of the organization’s work
  • Develop and implement digital marketing strategies to enhance online presence and engagement through the website, social media, and other digital platforms
  • Collaborate with program teams to develop and promote campaigns that align with the organization’s vision, values and strategic priorities
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage key stakeholders, including donors, partners, stakeholders, volunteers, and the public, in support of the organization
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the communication team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Build and lead vendor / partner relationships with agencies and consultants to best leverage a diverse set of competencies
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication and relevant activities.

Minimum qualifications & experience required:

We are looking for a committed professional with 12 to 20 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with a proven track record of developing and executing successful communication and marketing strategies in a nonprofit organization.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) based in Mumbai. Salary will be commensurate with the role, qualifications, and experience.

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Chief Operating Officer (COO)
