About the role

West Four is a privately held, family-owned group of companies with roots going back to 1947. Three generations of the Fafard family lead the business today. Our brands are Madero, Penner Doors & Hardware, Security Building Supplies, West Four Distribution, West Four Aluminum, WSI Modular and Two Six Creative.

We manufacture door systems and aluminum entrances, distribute doors, hardware and building specialties to dealers, contractors and modular builders, and run building supply retail in Saskatchewan. We operate our own trucking fleet, and an affiliated real estate company owns and leases the facilities our businesses run from.

We are looking for a Vice President, Finance to own the full finance function, including payroll and benefits, and to sit on our Executive Board as a senior financial partner to ownership. A key near-term mandate is leading the move from a review engagement to fully audited financial statements.

This is a hands-on executive role for someone who builds as well as leads: modern tools, clean processes and a team that gets better every quarter.

Job details

  • Location: Saskatoon head office (327 Wheeler Place). Fully in office, five days a week; not remote or hybrid
  • Travel: Minimal; occasional travel to locations in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba as needed
  • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer and Ownership
  • Leadership: Member of the West Four Executive Board
  • Team: Leads a team of 6 to 10: accounting, accounts payable, credit and collections, reporting and BI, payroll and benefits

What you'll own

You will be accountable for the full finance function of a business with more than 300 employees and over $120 million in annual revenue, across multiple legal entities, brands and locations.

Financial reporting and audit

  • Lead the month end and year end close across all entities, brands and locations, working toward a complete monthly package with analysis by the 10th
  • Lead the transition from a review engagement to audited financial statements: accounting policies, documentation, internal controls and audit file readiness
  • Own the year end engagement with our external accountants, and the working relationships with lenders and tax advisors
  • Own intercompany accounting, including facility and equipment leases and the allocation of shared head office services
  • Maintain reporting by legal entity, brand, location and project

Strategic finance and leadership

  • Lead the annual budget (April to March fiscal year), budget versus actual reporting and a rolling 12 month cash forecast
  • Deliver clear reporting and KPIs by brand and location: margin, inventory turns, labour and overtime, freight and return on capital
  • Partner directly with senior leaders across the business on pricing, capital investment, acquisitions and growth decisions
  • Present the monthly package, forecast and key risks to the Executive Board, and act as an independent check on major decisions

Treasury, banking and tax

  • Manage cash, banking and credit facilities, including covenant monitoring and lender reporting
  • Own the capital expenditure approval and tracking process, along with equipment financing and leases
  • Lead tax compliance for all entities (corporate income tax, GST, PST, payroll remittances) with external advisors, along with insurance and corporate registrations

Operations finance

  • Oversee inventory valuation, reserves and cost accounting for manufacturing and distribution, including shop cost recovery
  • Support the location and brand P&Ls that operations and sales leaders are measured on
  • Own financial oversight of our trucking fleet, which runs as its own P&L
  • Manage the finance side of the real estate portfolio: property accounting, intercompany rent, mortgages and financing

Accounts payable, receivable and credit

  • Drive AP automation and make sure no vendor payment discount is missed
  • Lower DSO and bad debt with a disciplined collections process, including liens and bond claims on construction projects across multiple provinces

People, payroll and HR administration

  • Lead and develop a team of 6 to 10, with clear roles, backup coverage and succession for every seat
  • Own payroll and group benefits for 300+ employees across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba
  • Oversee HR administration, and complete the move to automated onboarding, termination and rate change workflows in our payroll and HR system

Systems and automation

  • Own the finance technology roadmap across our S2K ERP, Power BI, Microsoft 365, Payworks and Zoho Expense, including planned Microsoft Fabric and Power Automate work
  • Automate statement preparation, variance commentary, and vendor payments and remittances from ERP to bank
  • Set and enforce controls: approval authorities, segregation of duties and bank reconciliation standards

You will not do this alone. You will be backed by a full-time AI integrator, our IT team and strong support from the executive team.

What you bring

  • CPA designation (required)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 5 years leading a finance team
  • Multi-entity accounting and consolidation experience in a business of similar scale (roughly $100M+ revenue, 200+ employees, multiple locations)
  • Experience taking a private company from a review engagement to its first audit under ASPE
  • Background in distribution, manufacturing or construction; exposure to retail, fleet or real estate is an asset
  • A track record of implementing finance technology and automation. Tell us what you automated, how, and what it saved
  • Hands-on, current use of AI tools in your own work, and a clear view of how finance teams should use them next
  • Strong Excel and Power BI skills and comfort working directly in an ERP
  • Multi-province Canadian payroll knowledge (SK, AB, MB) and a working command of Canadian tax
  • Experience managing lender relationships, credit facilities and covenants

Assets

  • S2K ERP experience
  • Experience in a private, family-owned group of companies
  • Inventory-heavy business experience: valuation, reserves and turns
  • Acquisitions, integrations or refinancing experience

How you work

  • Tech forward. You reach for automation, integrations, dashboards and AI tools first, and you are comfortable evaluating and rolling out new systems. Spreadsheets are a tool, not the system.
  • Agile. You move quickly, adjust to changing priorities across many businesses, and can go from an Executive Board discussion to a reconciliation in the same afternoon.
  • Extremely detail oriented. You catch the one-cent variance, and then you fix the process that caused it.
  • Direct communicator. You translate complex financial information into plain language for operators, and you raise concerns early and plainly, including with senior leaders.
  • Owner mindset. You treat the company's money like your own, take full accountability for results, and fit a family-owned business culture.

What we offer

  • A seat on the Executive Board of an established, growing family business
  • Real authority and fast decisions, without layers of corporate approval
  • Ownership that is actively investing in technology, data and AI, with a dedicated AI integrator and IT team to help you deliver
  • Starting at $175,000 base salary, plus annual performance bonus and group health and dental benefits
  • Room to build: modern systems, a strong team and a clean path to audited financials

Pay: From $175,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Dental care
  • Extended health care
