About the Role
At YMCA South Midlands, we deliver high-quality, targeted youth work across our youth clubs in the Milton Keynes community. We provide young people with safe, welcoming spaces where they can have fun, build positive relationships, strengthen their connection with their community and improve their wellbeing.
As a Senior Youth Worker, you’ll play an important role in making that happen.
You’ll be a positive and trusted adult role model for young people, creating an environment where they feel safe, listened to, supported and able to be themselves.
You will organise and lead engaging youth sessions, activities and workshops, as well as facilitating meaningful conversations and providing compassionate support when young people need it.
Working primarily with young people aged 11–18, you’ll help them explore their ideas, values and beliefs, develop confidence and life skills, build positive relationships and fulfil their potential.
Pay & Hours
We are offering £14.18 per hour. This is a zero-hours, term-time role, providing cover and support across our youth club sessions in Milton Keynes.
Youth sessions take place during term time, predominantly in the afternoons and evenings, with sessions starting from 4.00pm onwards. You will also receive one hour of preparation time per youth session.
Our youth clubs operate for approximately 39 weeks of the year, and you will need to be available to work afternoon and evening sessions during term time.
As a zero-hours role, the number of hours offered may vary depending on the needs of our youth services, and there is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours.
About You
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and understands the difference a great youth worker can make.
You will need:
- Direct experience of working with groups of young people, ideally within the 11–25 age range
- The confidence to organise and lead engaging youth sessions and activities
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people
- A supportive, compassionate and non-judgemental approach
- The confidence to manage challenging situations appropriately and maintain clear professional boundaries
- An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of creating safe environments for young people
- Availability to work afternoon and evening youth sessions during term time
A recognised youth work qualification, such as a JNC-recognised qualification, would be an advantage.
