About the role
You will design how every new client uses Yoyo before a single line of integration code is written. This is a product role that lives in front of clients. You bring a product manager’s discipline to every new deal: understand the problem, map the user journey, define the solution and manage scope. A solid working knowledge of APIs underpin all of it.
Think of it as product management at the sales point. Instead of owning a backlog, you own the solution design for each client, and what you learn goes straight back into our roadmap.
Why this role exists
The most expensive mistakes in our business happen before integration starts. A client builds the wrong flow in good faith, and it only surfaces months later at certification or after go-live, as rework, support tickets and settlement queries.
This role catches that at the start. Every new client gets an agreed solution design and user journey before credentials are issued, and that design becomes the benchmark the integration is certified against. Most clients need a quick confirmation; the value is in catching the few that don't, early.
Minimum Requirements
What you'll bring:
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years in product management, solutions consulting, solutions engineering or technical account management, ideally in payments, fintech, loyalty or B2B SaaS
- Strong user journey and flow design: you think end-to-end and can whiteboard a journey live with a client
- API fluency: you read REST API docs comfortably, understand authentication, requests and responses, webhooks, errors and reversals, and can test an endpoint in Postman. You don't need to write production code.
- Client presence: you can run a room with a retailer's head of IT and its marketing manager at the same time, and leave both with clarity
- Clear writing: solution designs that clients and engineers both understand
- Commercial judgement: you see how a design choice affects pricing, billing, settlement and support
- The confidence to say "not like that, like this", politely and early
- Pace: you enjoy a full calendar of client sessions and use AI tools daily to get more done
Nice-to-haves:
- Payments and POS knowledge: switching, routing, BIN ranges, reconciliation and settlement
- Experience with vouchers, gift cards, loyalty or card-linked offers
- E-commerce platform integrations such as Shopify or Magento
- Working knowledge of POPIA and consent-led data flows
- Familiarity with South African retail, banking and telco ecosystems
What this role is not:
- Not a developer - you won't build integrations; you make sure the right one gets built.
- Not a project manager - you hand over at sign-off and step back in only when scope changes.
- Not a salesperson - you strengthen the deal; you don't carry a quota.
- Not account management - account Managers own the relationship after go-live; you own the design before it
We’d love to hear from you if you want to own a new function from day one, report directly to the CPO and build a team as volumes grow. You’ll shape our roadmap with what you hear from South Africa’s leading retailers, banks and telcos, in a team that uses AI as standard and expects you to as well.
Duties and Responsibilities
What you'll do:
Run the solution design gate. Meet every new API client, typically in a 30-minute session, to agree their use case and user journey before credentials are issued. Point them to the right docs and integration path, then sign off.
Design journeys for complex deals. Join sales conversations as the solutions lead on enterprise and multi-product deals. Map the end-to-end journey, from issuance to redemption, settlement and reporting, and write it up so clients and engineers read the same thing.
Hand over cleanly to Integrations. Every client reaches Integrations with product, pricing and journey agreed. Your signed-off design is what certification is measured against.
Keep solutions on our platform. Spot requirements that fall outside our eight standard solutions early, and escalate them for a decision before anyone commits.
Manage scope change. When a client's needs shift mid-integration, route it back to Sales and Account Management with a clear view of the impact.
Help existing clients do more. Be the go-to person for "can we do this?" and "how do we do that?", and turn those questions into cross-sell and upsell opportunities.
Feed the roadmap. Capture the patterns, gaps and repeat requests you see across clients, and bring them to Product with evidence.
Scale yourself. Build reference journeys, templates and playbooks per solution, and improve our developer docs and self-serve onboarding so fewer clients need a meeting over time.
