Job Summary
The Classical Dance Facilitator is responsible for teaching Indian classical dance forms to students across different grade levels. The facilitator will help students develop dance techniques, rhythm, expression, discipline, and stage confidence while promoting cultural appreciation and supporting school performances and events.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Teach classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, or other recognized styles.
- Develop structured lesson plans suitable for beginner to advanced levels.
- Train students in basic adavus, mudras, expressions (abhinaya), and footwork.
- Teach rhythm (tala), coordination, posture, and body alignment.
- Encourage creativity, discipline, and cultural appreciation through dance.
Student Development
- Prepare students for school performances, cultural programs, competitions, and annual day events.
- Train students for solo and group dance performances.
- Provide individual guidance to improve technique, expression, and stage presence.
- Encourage regular practice and performance readiness.
Curriculum & Planning
- Design age-appropriate classical dance modules.
- Select suitable choreography and performance pieces.
- Maintain records of student progress and performance levels.
- Collaborate with other performing arts teachers for integrated programs.
Performance & Event Support
- Support school events such as assemblies, annual day celebrations, and cultural festivals.
- Organize rehearsals and coordinate dance performances.
- Prepare students for stage presentations and competitions.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain discipline and ensure a safe dance practice environment.
- Participate in staff meetings and school programs.
- Stay updated with classical dance techniques and performance trends.
- Uphold school policies and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certification in Classical Dance (Mandatory).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dance / Performing Arts (Preferred).
- Training in recognized classical dance forms (e.g., Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak).
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience teaching classical dance in schools or academies.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong proficiency in classical dance techniques.
- Knowledge of rhythm (tala), expressions (abhinaya), and choreography.
- Ability to train students of different age groups.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to prepare students for stage performances and competitions.
- Passion for Indian classical arts and culture.
Preferred Experience
- Experience choreographing school cultural programs.
- Experience preparing students for dance competitions and performances.
- Ability to handle multiple classical dance levels.
