Role Purpose
We are looking for a Senior Manager – Carbon MRV to establish and manage the complete Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system for the organisation's biogas, compressed biogas (CBG) and biomethane projects.
The role will be responsible for project eligibility, methodology selection, monitoring design, GHG calculations, audit preparation, third-party validation and verification, credit issuance, registry management and transaction documentation.
The position requires a strong combination of process understanding, greenhouse gas accounting, data governance and stakeholder management. The key objective is to ensure that every carbon-credit claim is conservative, traceable to primary evidence and capable of withstanding independent verification.
Key ResponsibilitiesCarbon Project Development & Methodology
- Assess biogas, CBG and biomethane projects for eligibility under the Indian Carbon Market, Verra, Gold Standard and other applicable programmes.
- Select appropriate methodologies, tools, baselines and crediting approaches.
- Prepare or supervise Project Design Documents (PDDs).
- Develop monitoring plans, project boundaries and additionality assessments.
- Maintain stakeholder consultation, safeguards and supporting project documentation.
- Monitor changes in applicable standards, methodologies and carbon-market requirements.
Carbon Accounting & Emission Calculations
- Develop auditable carbon models covering:
- Baseline methane emissions
- Captured and utilised biogas
- CBG/biomethane production
- Fossil-fuel displacement
- Electricity and fuel consumption
- Transportation
- Leakage and methane slip
- Flaring
- Digestate and eligible co-products
- BioCO₂ and biochar, where applicable
- Review emission-reduction calculations and ensure assumptions are appropriately documented and supported by evidence.
MRV System & Data Governance
- Establish and maintain the complete MRV control framework across project sites.
- Define monitored parameters, measurement points, monitoring frequency, accuracy requirements, calibration requirements, data owners and evidence sources.
- Establish procedures for missing data, data gaps, abnormal readings and discrepancies.
- Integrate and validate data from plant instruments, PLC/SCADA systems, weighbridges, laboratories, invoices, dispatch records, customer confirmations and finance systems.
- Conduct monthly data-quality reviews and reconcile operational data with commercial records.
- Investigate unexplained differences, expired calibration, abnormal results and data-quality issues.
Verification, Audit & Certification
- Prepare monitoring reports, emission-reduction statements and complete evidence packs for independent validation and verification.
- Coordinate with Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) for audits and site visits.
- Manage audit queries and closure of Clarification Requests (CLs), Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and Forward Action Requests (FARs).
- Support project registration, monitoring, verification and credit-issuance processes.
- Ensure carbon reductions are not represented as issued credits until approved and serialised by the relevant registry.
Registry & Carbon Asset Management
- Manage registry accounts, permissions, KYC documentation, issuance requests, fees, serial numbers, transfers and retirements.
- Maintain a reconciled carbon asset ledger by project, methodology, monitoring period, vintage, status and registry serial range.
- Maintain documentation supporting ownership, title and delivery status of carbon credits.
- Prevent double counting, double issuance and incompatible claims involving carbon credits, renewable gas attributes, renewable energy certificates and other environmental attributes.
- Support credit sales and due diligence by providing verified availability forecasts and project documentation.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with project, plant operations, engineering, finance, sustainability, commercial and legal teams.
- Work closely with auditors, VVBs, registries, consultants, programme administrators and other external stakeholders.
- Provide management with regular updates on project status, verification, credit issuance and MRV risks.
- Drive continuous improvement of MRV processes, controls and documentation.
Key Emissions & Evidence Areas
The role will cover evidence and calculations relating to:
- Feedstock quantity and characteristics
- Raw biogas flow and composition
- Methane recovery
- CBG/biomethane purity and production quantity
- Reject gas and fugitive methane
- Flare operation
- Grid electricity and fossil-fuel consumption
- CBG compression and dispatch
- CBG/biomethane end use
- Pipeline injection
- Digestate and fertilizer
- BioCO₂ and biochar, where eligible
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy/Process Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Climate Science or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of GHG accounting, carbon-credit methodologies, MRV systems and assurance processes.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 14064 and project-level greenhouse-gas accounting.
- Advanced Excel and data-analysis skills are essential.
- Knowledge of Power BI, SQL, GIS, digital MRV systems or process historians will be an advantage.
Experience Required
- 7–12 years of overall relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Carbon MRV, carbon assurance, project certification or carbon-credit projects.
- Experience preparing/reviewing PDDs, monitoring reports, calculation workbooks and auditor responses.
- Experience taking at least one carbon project through registration, verification or credit issuance is strongly preferred.
- Practical exposure to anaerobic digestion, CBG, biomethane, wastewater, organic waste, methane recovery or renewable-energy projects is highly desirable.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
