Mid Level Java Developer

Job Description
Gain America is hiring Mid Level Java Developers to support enterprise-scale New York State and Federal government IT systems. This role is ideal for experienced developers who enjoy working on large, mission-critical applications in highly regulated environments.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining Java-based enterprise applications that support government operations and public services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance enterprise Java applications for NY State and Federal agencies
- Collaborate with business analysts, architects, QA, and infrastructure teams
- Perform code reviews, debugging, performance tuning, and production support
- Support system modernization, enhancements, and integrations
- Develop and consume REST/SOAP APIs
- Follow established SDLC, security, and compliance standards
- Independently manage complex development tasks with minimal supervision
Required Technical Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional Java development experience
- Strong expertise in Java/J2EE, including Spring or similar frameworks
- Experience with enterprise web applications and backend services
- Hands-on experience with databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies
- Experience with version control and CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior State or Federal government project experience
- Background Check and Security Clearance required.
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
- Knowledge of security, compliance, or data governance standards
- Experience mentoring junior developers or providing technical leadership
Mandatory Requirements
- US Citizen or Green Card holder (mandatory)
- Must be a local resident of New York.
- Willingness to work on long-term contract engagements
- Open to ravel/relocate if required
