About the role
We're looking for an experienced Finance Assistant to join our team at Vorenta.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the day-to-day side of finance and is looking for a permanent role within a friendly and supportive team. You'll be involved in a bit of everything, from processing supplier invoices and preparing sales invoices to bank reconciliations, expenses and credit control. You'll work closely with the Finance Manager and colleagues across the business, helping to make sure everything is processed accurately and on time.
We're a small team, so it's important that you enjoy getting stuck in and are happy taking responsibility for your own workload.
It's also worth knowing that we're not currently a particularly automated finance function. Some of our processes are quite traditional and involve manual checking and calculations. For example, purchase invoices are checked and processed manually, some invoicing information is gathered by manually collating hours, and VAT on expenses is calculated and checked by the team.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable working this way, but keen to support automation opportunities and development, enjoys following processes and takes pride in getting things right. If you're someone who likes a hands-on finance role and wants to become a reliable, long-term part of a team, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Banking and reconciliations: Keeping an eye on daily bank transactions, reconciling accounts and investigating any differences.
- Purchase ledger: Processing supplier invoices, checking details and authorisations, dealing with queries and keeping supplier accounts up to date.
- Supplier payments: Preparing monthly payment runs and making sure invoices are checked and ready for approval.
- Sales invoicing: Gathering information and preparing monthly sales invoices, making sure everything is accurate and sent out on time.
- Credit control: Keeping track of outstanding customer invoices, following up overdue payments and allocating money received.
- Expenses: Checking approved expense claims and receipts, making sure costs are coded correctly and VAT is accounted for before submitting for payment.
- General finance support: Helping the Finance Manager with day-to-day tasks, reconciliations and gathering financial information when needed.
- Keeping records up to date: Making sure financial information is accurate, well organised and easy to access when needed.
What we're looking for
Ideally, you'll have at least two years' experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role and be confident with the day-to-day responsibilities. A good understanding of bookkeeping is important, along with strong numerical skills and a real eye for detail.
We're looking for someone who is organised, methodical and enjoys working through tasks properly. You'll need to be comfortable following established processes, managing your own workload and keeping on top of deadlines.
You'll also have:
- A good understanding of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles.
- Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using accounting software. Sage 50 experience would be particularly useful, but we're happy to consider someone with good bookkeeping experience using other systems.
- A basic understanding of Microsoft Excel and confidence working with spreadsheets.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to speak with suppliers, customers and colleagues.
- The ability to work independently, use your initiative and ask for help when needed.
- A sensible and discreet approach when dealing with confidential financial information.
AAT Level 2 or 3 would be useful, but it's not essential. We're more interested in your practical experience and what you can bring to the role than whether you have formal finance qualifications.
Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys being in a hands-on finance role. This isn't necessarily a stepping stone into a more senior position; we're looking for someone who wants to settle into the role, become confident in what they do and be a dependable part of the team. There may be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities over time, but the main focus will remain on the day-to-day running of the finance function.
It would be great if you also have:
- Previous experience using Sage 50.
- AAT Level 2 or 3, or other relevant finance training.
- Experience working in a regulated or compliance-focused environment.
- Experience working across both purchase and sales ledger, including credit control.
What's on offer?
- Competitive dependent on experience
- A permanent position working Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
- The opportunity to work from home one day per week following successful completion of probation.
- A pension scheme available after three months.
- Access to a Simplyhealth plan and Perkbox following successful completion of probation.
- Free onsite parking.
- A friendly, close-knit team, with regular team lunches and social outings.
- A varied role where you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work and become an important part of the Finance team.
Our office is set in the Gloucestershire countryside, surrounded by beautiful walks that are perfect for a lunchtime stroll. It's also within easy walking distance of shops, coffee spots and a range of places to grab lunch.
We're proud of our friendly and supportive working environment and the way our teams work together. We value collaboration, openness, integrity and quality, and we're looking for someone who shares these values.
