Job Overview:
The Application Site Supervisor will oversee the on-site application of refractory products, ensuring all operations are executed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. This position is key in managing the application crew, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring that the company's refractory materials and services meet the highest standards of quality and performance. The role involves hands-on supervision, quality control, and communication with clients to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1) On-Site Supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the application of refractory materials (e.g., castables, bricks, insulating materials, etc.) at client sites, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and safety standards.
- Lead a team of field workers, including refractory installers, technicians, and laborers.
- Monitor daily work activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Oversee the preparation, installation, and curing of refractory linings and structures.
2) Quality Control & Assurance:
- Conduct regular inspections of work to ensure that the application of refractory materials meets the required quality standards and specifications.
- Perform routine testing of materials and finished installations to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., temperature resistance, structural integrity).
- Resolve any technical issues that may arise during installation.
3) Safety Management:
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, guidelines, and company policies on site.
- Conduct regular safety briefings with the team and ensure the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and mitigate any potential safety hazards in the work environment.
4) Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on-site, ensuring effective communication regarding progress, schedules, and any issues that may arise.
- Report daily progress and any challenges to the project manager or relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality installations on time and within budget.
5) Material and Equipment Management:
- Coordinate the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment required for the application process.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure that materials are used efficiently to minimize waste.
- Oversee the proper handling and maintenance of all tools and equipment used on-site.
6) Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, work completed, and any incidents or changes to project scope.
- Prepare and submit daily or weekly progress reports to the project manager, noting any delays, issues, or changes in scope.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built documentation and final handover reports.
7) Training & Development:
- Train and mentor junior personnel on the proper application techniques, safety procedures, and company standards.
- Ensure team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks efficiently and safely.
8) Problem Solving:
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical and operational problems that may arise during the refractory application process.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to implement corrective actions where necessary.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) working in the refractory industry, particularly in field application or construction supervision.
- Prior experience in supervising teams, managing work schedules, and coordinating on-site activities.
Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of refractory materials, applications, and installation techniques.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, project managers, and team members.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, project specifications, and safety documents.
- Proficient in using basic software tools for documentation, reporting, and communication (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, project management software).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and in challenging conditions (e.g., high temperatures, confined spaces).
Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, First Aid, etc.) are desirable.
- Refractory or related technical certifications (e.g., RHI, HarbisonWalker) are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- The position will involve extensive travel to project sites, both domestically and internationally.
- Candidates must be willing to work in varying environmental conditions, including high heat, confined spaces, and outdoors.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on project deadlines.
- The role may involve working with hazardous materials; adherence to safety protocols is critical.
