SHIFT INCHARGE- MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE

Job Overview:

The Shift Incharge Maintenance - Mechanical is responsible for overseeing the mechanical maintenance operations during the assigned shift in a refractory manufacturing facility. The role involves ensuring the mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery are maintained to the highest standards, minimizing downtime, and improving overall efficiency. The Shift Incharge will supervise a team of technicians, coordinate with production departments, and ensure safety and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Supervision and Leadership:

• Manage and supervise a team of mechanical maintenance technicians during the shift.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts during breakdowns and provide guidance to the team in solving complex mechanical issues.
• Ensure all team members follow safety protocols and maintenance procedures.

2) Preventive and Predictive Maintenance:

• Develop and ensure the implementation of preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment, including kilns, crushers, mills, conveyors, and other machinery used in refractory production.
• Monitor the performance of equipment and systems to predict potential failures and initiate corrective actions.
• Ensure the proper lubrication, calibration, and alignment of machinery as per the manufacturer’s specifications.

3) Breakdown Management and Troubleshooting:

• Act as the first point of contact for mechanical breakdowns during the shift.
• Lead quick and effective troubleshooting to minimize production downtime.
• Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance when necessary, including repairing pumps, valves, rotating equipment, motors, and other mechanical systems.
• Maintain a record of all breakdowns and repairs for continuous improvement and root cause analysis.

4) Safety and Compliance:

• Enforce safety policies and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including environmental and safety regulations, specific to the refractory industry.
• Conduct safety checks, audits, and equipment inspections to minimize hazards related to high temperatures, dust, and heavy machinery.

5) Equipment and Spare Parts Management:

• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for mechanical maintenance.
• Ensure timely procurement of critical spare parts to avoid delays in maintenance work.
• Collaborate with the procurement team to manage inventory and ensure essential parts are available.

6) Team Development and Training:

• Provide training and guidance to new and existing maintenance staff.
• Ensure technicians are well-versed in maintaining refractory production equipment and machinery.
• Promote skill development to improve overall team competency and work efficiency.

7) Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
• Prepare shift reports detailing equipment conditions, maintenance performed, and any unresolved issues.
• Ensure that all maintenance data is entered into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking and analysis.

8) Continuous Improvement:

• Suggest improvements in mechanical maintenance practices, equipment upgrades, or process changes to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and assist in implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Focus on improving the operational performance of refractory manufacturing equipment and reducing maintenance costs.

9) Coordination with Production:

• Work closely with the production team to ensure that equipment downtime is minimized during the shift.
• Ensure that all scheduled maintenance is completed without affecting production targets or quality.
• Communicate any critical equipment issues to production and management for appropriate action.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education:
• A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in the refractory, cement, or heavy industrial sector.
• At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or shift in-charge role.
• Technical Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems such as kilns, mills, crushers, pumps, compressors, and conveyors.
• Proficiency in using mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Familiarity with refractory production processes and high-temperature equipment.
• Experience with maintenance management software (CMMS) for tracking and reporting.
• Leadership Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to motivate and train a team of maintenance technicians.
• Problem-Solving:
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mechanical systems.
• Ability to perform detailed failure analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Communication Skills:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively interact with production, quality control, and safety departments.
• Certifications:
• Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA or similar) is highly beneficial.
• Any additional certifications related to mechanical maintenance or the refractory industry are an advantage.

Work Environment:

• Work in a refractory manufacturing plant, which may involve exposure to high temperatures, dust, and heavy machinery.
• Required to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays, depending on the company’s production schedule.
